Does Iowa have a wheelroute to a RB in the playbook?

Just sayin'. Would luv to see Canzeri, Bullock or Parker slip down the sidelines for a gainer. This after a TE and/or Wideout clear that side of the field with routes going to the middle of the field. It would be a linebacker on the RB at that point.

I think this is an example of how they could utilize Bullock's services more. I mean he was offered a chance at WR but chose RB, so I think he would be able to catch pretty well.

Stanzi to Arob 2010 MSU- TD.

maybe that wasn't a 'wheel route'

nevermind.

we got no wheels and no routes.

If Kurt still has the 2007 Indiana game film he could find some nice wheel routes in there that the Hoosiers ran.

Canzeri also had a big gain on wheel play against either ISU or Ball State. Can't remember which.

That's a play I hope to see again soon, though I am very pleased we are running jet/fly sweeps with some consistency now, as well as a toss-pitch misdirection (acts almost like a reverse) to the RB as well, which I saw for the first time last Saturday (and which I've been asking for, for years). Wisconsin slays teams with those two plays game in and game out.

IMO, any misdirection play would be welcomed--makes it more likely that the usual off-tackle plays and so on will work, since the D can't sellout as much to stop the run.

I thought the wheel route got ripped outta the playbook when Garmon couldn't catch the ball. Gawd, I look back at some of the lost opportunities and cringe.

It it was against ball state, but I am not 100% sure it was a wheel tho... I do think we will see Parker do something similar to that play eventually.

2012 ISU game at Kinnick, only hilite of the game was a JVB wheel route to Bullock that put hawks in position to win a game , but then came the INT.

Hawks lose another crummily played game against ISU.

Here's the thing... Iowa's offense, for the most part, is predicated around the idea that the QB gets the ball out quickly. I agree with the OP. I think the Hawks have a couple RB's who would be viable options on a wheel route. Parker in particular. However, the wheel route typically takes a little while to develop because the RB has to run to the sidelines and then get a step or two behind the LB. Typically the ball is out of our QB's hand by the time a route like that would develop.

You could put the RB in motion in order to speed it up a little bit. That may be tipping your hand though.

You people aren't thinking clearly. Every wheel route called is one less opportunity to run a horizontal pattern for no gain.

To piggy back this JVB hit Bullock on wheel route against NIU on the game winning drive a couple of years ago.

What it is odd is that the wheel route was a staple in the GD offense at Texas here it seems to be almost a gimmick. Lamar Charles or one of those Texas backs smoked Humpal on a TD pass in the 06 Alamo bowl. Shallow crosses and wheel routes were pretty much everything Vince Young threw that 05 season.

Not odd when you consider that Ferentz is the primary architecht of the O.

When you have one of the best running backs in the world you can pretty much do whatever you want. He's extremely fun to watch on the Chiefs.

Correct, but Iowa has one of the best pass blocking linrs in the BIG & Keep the QB's relatively upright, hence why I brought it up.
