Does being great Party School help recruiting?

I'm sure it helps some.

Only thing bad about the publicity is now Sally Mason is going to go all Nazi on everyone again.
 
I certainly hope it doesn't. I mean... the type of players we want shouldn't be the ones who are choosing a college to attend because of how hard they party. If that is on a recruits short list... I hope they go play beer pong elsewhere.

This! Right on. Watch out for falling sledgehammers.

I was at the OSU@ Wisky game last Oct. What a completely different atmosphere than IC.
 
Actually, they are now preventing intoxicated students from entering Camp Randall. The university has actually tried to limit night games in Madison due to excessive drinking all day prior to these events. I work in the ER at UW hospital and most of the worst nights of the year to work are when there is a late football game.

Basically, the heat isn't roaming the streets looking for open containers. The parking spots aren't monitored for music, open liquor, beer.

You drink your beer as you go up to the stadium and deposit cans in bins right before you enter.

Relaxed atmosphere where people are encouraged to lube up a bit and support the Badgers.

Kind of along these lines the subject of pay for play comes up in this weeks SI's Dan Patrick interview with Falcon QB Matt Ryan.

DP: How much money would have been enough at Boston College?

MR: It's an expensive city. I would need extra money. Compared to some places in the Midwest, your money doesn't go as far in Boston.

DP: So you might have gone to a school in the Midwest instead?

MR: Once you finally turn 21, the cost of a Bud Light in Iowa City is a little bit less than the cost of a Bud Light in Boston. It definately could change where people go.

There you have it. Maybe the party school image is a factor.

Cool! Never been to a game that didn't involve Iowa and haven't been to another stadium when it wasn't a bowl game... Always wanted to go to one though.
 
I always have wanted to hit an Iowa-Wisky game in Madison. I think Madison would be an awesome place to live. Lakes around there & pretty much close to Chicago & Milwaukee.
 
I don't know about the party school part, but having lots of hot chicks on campus definitely helps. Trust me, some universities find very creative ways of making sure the recruits find the hot girls...
 
I'm not going to read the whole thread, but the last time I was in Madison (2009), they were really cracking down hard on the open containers. There were electronic signs up everywhere warning of $300 tickets. The locals warned us as well.

They do not have very much open yard tailgating like you find around Kinnick. Most of it is done in bars or tented-off "party areas" that charge you admission to get in.

A very overrated pre-game atmosphere, IMO.
