Does anyone understand the JaMarcus Russell saga?

Looks like the NFL tests for codeine and let him slide on this one. That in itself strikes me as weird.

After reading this article -- I cannot figure out why the cops busted him for allegedly having codeine. Sounds like all they found was one codeine bottle and a drink laced with it. Another guy took the fall.

Does that seem a bit weird that the cops would spend time/energy/dollars tracking down a bottle of codeine?

There must be a lot more here going on then meets the eye. Anyone who can please fill in the gaps.

Dude, I am pushing 40 years of age so I have no idea what is trendy and hip these days. The way I understand it is you mix codeine with a jolly rancher and 7up to come up with a drink called 'purple drank'. Supposedly, it mellows you out similiar to the way weed does.......it also gives you the munchies.....therefore you can understand why Russell always looks bloated and out of shape. You probably already know you need a prescription for codeine and if you have codeine without one, well you can be in big trouble.

From what I have been told, 'purple drank' is popular in the south among the hip hop community.

Codene syrup is a Schedule II controlled substance. Schedule II drugs are the most heavily controlled drugs that have been determined to have pharmaceutical use. Even in the pharmacy these drugs are locked away. Inventories are highly controlled. Just yesterday I saw a fake Rx for codene syrup.
