We want to create a culture of contributors here at the New HawkeyeNation.com...this is a part of a grand plan of involvement that I have had since moving the site to a free model back in October of 2009.
I want to create an outlet for those of you that a) want to write about the Iowa Hawkeyes and b) show that you have the ability to do it, a place where the Hawkeye Nation can read your opinions. Just last month more than 100,000 Hawkeye fans from more than 130 countries around the world visited this site...and that's March...come August through January, it will be more than that.
Through the years I have had scores of inquiries from folks that have wanted to be a part of what we do at HawkeyeNation.com. With the old subscription model we had, that was too tough to do and was not the right place and time...now it is...I think
So here is your first 'audition' if you will. For those of you that are interested, pick some topic related to Iowa football and hack out 700 words or more. It could be your impressions of the Spring Practice on Saturday, it could be your thoughts on the Big Ten season next year, could be on a position battle you are interested in....it could be any number of things.
Just pick something you think you will be proficient at, and sit down and type away.
Then, go into the 'blog' function you have with a free registered user account here at the site and post it there. Here is a link that takes you to your blog page: Post to Your Blog
Each of you has this ability, to create and customize your own blog within the pages of this website. That's just one of the many things that you can do that you might not know, and we'll spend the next several months educating you on what you CAN do.
Once you post your blog, send me an email with your username and I can go in and take a look at what you have written. I will make every attempt to provide feedback on what you have done, and if it's something I think the masses would enjoy reading, I will draw attention to it on the front page of the site, via twitter as well as my facebook.com/hawkeyenation page.
We'll keep this up during the summer months, too, because it's easy to write about Iowa football, basketball and wrestling during their seasons...the creative mind is put to the test May through July...and if you can do it then, you be able to do it in the fall.
So here's your shot; a chance to contribute to one of the most viewed Iowa websites in the world and have people read your opinions and offerings. This site will be providing more and more ways for fans to feel like they have a say, a voice as well as ways to contribute for the betterment and enjoyment of the entire community, which is what I have always wanted for a community to be...now, we get to make the rules, we are not encumbered by any network and we are working on a blank canvass.
One final note: not every submission will be 'published'. If you don't have relatively thick skin, or if you don't take constructive criticism well, then this might not be for you...and I am not talking about just from me. I may find something interesting, post it, and others may be critical of it. That's goes with the territory...just keep that in mind
