Do we Need more Basketball News??

Good opinions from both you and BigD. I suppose my opinion would align closer to BigD's and for these reasons.

If there is the disconnect between the administration, if our AD isn't strong, as you state, then it is up to the fans to make their expectations known in order to facilitate bridging the disconnect. Big doners are fans also, so they are either in line with the administration or have to set their expectations by not donating, if unsatisfied.

The average Joe fan can stop paying for tickets, which affects concessions and they can stop buy apparel, if their expectations aren't met. But, you need to have expectations. To BigD's point, 10 wins next season is my minium expectation. We should be a good team next year and, let's not forget that the 2013 team was well on their way to 13 or 14 wins before they fell apart. I am not going to be fooled by their 9 win season.

As for Hayden, yep, he came in at a great time. But, it worked because he set expectations. Remember back to Iowa going on the road and playing Oklahoma really close, but losing. Hayden was all-fired P.O'd. when the players were feeling good about a close loss. That has nothing to do with the administration, the AD or anyone else. That was Hayden and his expections to win, not play tough teams close.

I just want someone to answer what is the next step post Fran? The easy part is letting someone go but answer the how will that then make us better and stake your reputation on it.

What kind of coach do we get next?

After Olson we got 2 BCS coaches, then a MVC, then Horizon, then MAAC....

See a pattern?

Turnover damages a programs reputation and makes good coaches and players leery about your program. Lick had to go but you had better be darn sure this next time or lookout. Then many of you will not be accountable when we bottom out again.

I've got some news here! A Iowa State Fan came to me in Lowe's and poke me in my chest and I told him I'm deaf and he took off his hat and showed me his Iowa State hat and said I'm the Iowa State Clowns fan. He thought I was Iowa State fan just because I was wearing Iowa State t-shirt that my daughter has given to me. I told him No I'm not a fan , Hahahaha NOOOO way
I told him my daughter is going to school but I'm not a fan. WELCOME TO B1G,MARYLAND AND RUTGERS!
So Excited!

I didn't realize Clones shopped at Lowes, never shopping there again.....

I am positive, supportive and anxiously awaiting the first game, Atomic....

I really don't think Fran is on the hot seat or will be. He has done a remarkable job so far and will get better as he has every year.....

Remember we are a long way from Lick....

In no way do I want Fran gone, at this point. Fran had the team poised to strike and then the players did whatever they did to tank. Fran is the man for the job. My previous comment was pointing out that should be a requirement to have, not only expectations, but high expectations. If you don't have the bar raised high, you aren't looking up. I've heard at least one interview in which Fran stated "National Championship." No, Fran most definitely has expectations. The fans should, as well. Ten wins in the B1G next season, it just needs to be the floor and figure out a way to do better.

There is a difference between expectations and ultimatums. Most of the comments are ultimatums that do not take into account the circumstances of a season and long term vision. Ultimatums also dictate an action if not accomplished.

To me we have to have some long term stability in this program. It is the only way to establish the long term recruiting ties that we desperately need as well as an identity that recruits want to know. Turning over one more coach even with some disappointment is a bad move. We will essentially be labeled a coaching graveyard and the candidate pool will be severely limited to trying to get lucky by finding an up-and-comer diamond-in-the-ruff coach. If we feel this lucky go for it but my prediction is we will be setting the new bar/floor at 3-4 wins in conference with 2000 fans in CHA.

I am not saying Fran is a lock to make it but he is far better bet than starting over with some unknown and unestablished coach. This is the price we pay for ******* away a good program at one time,

Fran has already transformed the attitudes about Iowa bb. We are back on the map. We got Mad last year and made the tourney for the first time in 8 years. The league has been heavily stocked with high NBA draft picks the last few years, so this is not Hayden competing against only Mich and OSU to win the league. This league has been the best in the country for much of the last two years, when we started getting good. You have to look at circumstances before rigidly setting goals. Iowa has not won the league in 35 years....demanding that Fran win it in his first 5 years is not realistic.

Whats realistic is we don't stop trying and bodysalm the league for championship! Lets go!

Blue, it is about attitude. You go out and take something you want. If you sit back and wait, well, people aren't going to give you a championship. I do think this thread has gotten a little off track, though. I'm not sure anyone has stated they are not happy with Fran. If they have, then I missed that post. Fran will get it done. I will say my expectations match Frans. If you don't get ****** off when you win 9 games but should have won 12, 13 or 14, then when are you going to and then you just wind up settling for whatever happens.

I guess I should have clarified that I am happy where Fran is right now. Pretty good job coming out of the sewer. KF is the one I am questioning. Ten plus wins and I will be much happier. I honestly expect it to happen. Six wins would be a disaster in my opinion. Eight wins...... Sigh... Hoe hum.
