Do we like the Ohio State WR visiting today?

The NIL is the Wild West. Million dollar agreements and bidding wars over athletes. It's taken it to a whole new level. Here's an interesting one, Arch Manning, who committed to Texas, allegedly won't accept any of his NIL money unless he wins the starting job. That was the agreement his dad brokered!!! I guess he is going to make his kid earn it!

Completely moronic. This is a way for them to get the kid serious money just based on the family name and some high school and camp tape. The kid could get Theismaned on the first day of practice. Or he could get Steve Younged his first snap under center in a game in mop up time. Or he could just suck. Get him the cheddar now.

It also creates a potential massive sideshow. We've had plenty of family drama at Iowa, but imagine the pressure on the kid with $5 million of NIL cash riding on him starting. Stories like this coupled with me getting older makes me realize that I love Kirk Ferentz because if this kid builds a faction but doesn't get the starting nod it will shred the team. Ferentz would tell these people to pound sand.

Absolutely. It also brought up the Hunter Dickinson comment he made. He was criticized by some Michigan fans for leaving to go to Kansas. His reply to them was basically, "Would you not leave your current job for a job that paid $10K more? I was not even making six figures at Michigan."

At first, I kind of thought it sounded bit like a spoiled college athlete grabbing the money. Which, in a way it is, but these are the times we are in and why shouldn't he try to capitalize on as much as he can earn right now. As you pointed out, freak things happen. Injuries or a players tanks. Then they are done.

The days of playing for your university and etc are gone. It's about getting paid. Pretty hard for a recruiter to sell you the chance to develop and play in the NFL someday when you have another school opening a briefcase full of money.
