Do we get burned again....

on a fake punt/field goal again this season? More importantly next week? We seem to never be prepared for this type of play. Luckily we still held them to a FG last game but it's really going to be disheartening to our D when the outcome is a TD. I see more teams running these on us as we don't seem to ever see these coming.... What gives?

its kirk's fault and he should be fired for it

obviously i'm joking but you should expect that kind of response. enjoy

I've been defending the coaching staff but I'm with you on this one and the staff has to take the blame for getting caught with their pants down.

This is the one bad thing about KF and how conservative he is because the fake FG and Wisconsin's fake punt last year were ran at unusual times. You would never see KF run a fake FG in the 1st quarter of a scoreless game when it is an automatic 3 and really wouldn't see him run a fake punt from his own 20 late in the game of a close game. Because of timing of these I think the staff was surprised and shocked they got ran. But it is called having balls and doing something out of the ordinary to get your team going.

I was thinking about this too. We seem to have 3 defenses against punts and field goals:
-Standard (we play it straight up)
-All-out block
-Safe (expecting the fake)

I would say we were in the Standard defense when we got burned. I would say the same thing for the fake punt against Wisky last year. What I'm wondering though, is why that strategy exists? It didn't look like the D was doing anything except waiting for the kicker to make the field goal. Shouldn't we always either be going for an all-out block or playing a base defense?

I'll put the over/under at 6.5 times over the rest of the season. If you try it, we're screwed the first time.
