DL Next Year

Jumping ahead a bit, but a strong DL has been key to Iowa's run the last three years. If guys like ZVV and Austin Schulte leave, next year's crew is awfully young ...

I wouldn't be shocked to see Waggoner move inside to DT beside Shannon, with Evans, Craig, Lee, and Black rotating at DE. Probably going to hunt for a grad transfer at DT again.

I think there was a second grad transfer from Northern Illinois? This one had two years to play IIRC?

Heflin can return too...and I think he will. I think he wants to get the real feel for playing at Iowa...walking out of the tunnel to Back in Black.

You have a few young guys that came in this year that are going to make waves too...Logan Lee and Yaya Black. They were in the deep end with the minutes they have gotten this year...but a year in the weight room will make a huge difference for them. They have natural size...so it's just about getting stronger and explosive...which usually takes a few years.

Why would ZVV and Schulte leave? have they ran out of eligibility? If ZVV has a year left and has pro quality skills and aspirations then it seems he would want to play another full slate of games and show his stuff even more. He is playing great.

Doesnt Schulte have at least a year left? If so and if he wants to play he probably will be back because it is not like he has played a ton of time in his career.

Both are seniors, being honored at senior day. Who knows if they want to stick around college for another year, even if the NCAA has given its blessing.

Schulte seems like the more likely candidate since he dealt with injuries this year, and I think he has a relative on the team.

ZVV could probably make a pro squad in some capacity or another (not as a drafted player).

I think Heflin has played very well, great addition. He would really help next year.

If you aren't going to get drafted...I'd be willing to bet most of these guys are going to come back...take advantage of the Iowa training and get better. Hope that is what happens.
