DJK

My problem with Sandeman on punt returns is he doesn't catch the ball so many times. He let's it drop, when he could run up and fair catch it. He had a terrible Orange Bowl and yesterday wasn't great either.

I agree with this. But it's kind of weird because when he took over returning punts after Chaney got hurt, I thought he did a great job of fielding punts at first, but as the season went on he got worse and worse at it. And yesterday's game was more of the same, he lost like 10 yards on at least three punts by letting them bounce.

I think based on past years, that Iowa sticks to basics the first week. Play action, short passes to the back's, WR's, TE's etc. This gives them time to get their feet wet and gives the week two opponent nothing to observe.

Like others have said Iowa had no reason to break out the vertical passing game. The game plan was much the same as every first game of the year. Work on the run game, and the ball control passing game. Both are areas that Iowa needed work on, and EIU provided a game environment to improve on them. I would expect that DKJ, Marvin, and Davis will see a lot more action next week.

I honestly believe that part of it had to deal with DJK's health. However, I also think that another signficant part of it has to do with the fact that the game-plan was constructed to help the squad shore up deficiencies.

If you remember from last year, our O relied heavily upon the threat of the TEs in the passing game to open up the WR passing game. Thus, it behooves the coaches to make sure that we can continue to feature the TEs as reliable and viable downfield threats.

In the short term, sure it didn't help the stats of our WRs. However, in the longer run, it will make their collective lives that much easier.

My sense is KF and KOK were keeping the DJK powder dry for ISU and/or Arizona. We'll need everybody in those games as well as the conference.

Again, I hope so.....but again last year McNutt and DJK platooned a lot of the season and it looks like DJK is in that spot again. I don't see Sandeman getting less reps when DJK is fully healthy. I see them continuing to rotate them in, which I have an issue with. I want DJK and McNutt on the field as much as possible.

Personnel decisions at WR are made by Soup. I have little worries about Soup putting in the personnel groups that best match what we're trying to accomplish for a given gameplan.

There are invariably legit "rumblings" if DJK has let immature actions (like being late for workouts, meetings, etc) send him to the "doghouse." However, I've heard no such rumblings on this occasion. I don't believe that DJK was "shelved" for any nefarious reason.
