DJK on Vandenberg, 3rd WR for 2011

DJK's handle on twitter is @DJ_Koulianos

I might not always agree with what he tweets, or his style..then again, it might be because I will be 40 in less than two months...have to acknowledge that. then again, I don't always agree with stuff I see from the other 100 or so people I follow...and I know folks sure as heck don't always agree with what I say.

Some stuff he has tweeted the last couple days related to next year's players has been interesting.

This on Vandenberg: "In10' his practices were practically flawless.startin caliber."

This on 3rd receiver: "kmart all day.“@benherreragolf: @DJ_Koulianos who's gunna be no 3 receiver behind marvin and kennan? Kmart? Cotton?”

kmart is Kevonte Martin-Manley...DJK tweeted this about him yesterday: "@Fallein Kevonte is the new DJK minus the delusional antics.he has my senior skills as a freshman. no bs. I know talent when I c it."

This yesterday on Keenan Davis: "If Keenan Davis can convert his freakish abilities to on the field production.... He will be the best WR Iowa has ever seen. TRUST THAT!"

One request: Please don't turn this thread into a commentary on his twitter style or overall comments. If you like it, follow. If you don't like it, don't.

I stopped following him.... the fashinista aspect of his tweets was too much for me.

Anyhow - these tweets are good stuff... I am not worried for next year. I see the potential for a 9-3 season easy with the potential for 10-2 very easily.

This post went to 250 views in like 10 minutes at this late hour of the evening. the name 'DJK' can still attract attention that is for sure.

Interesting to get his take on the returning players. I think with Davis, nearly everyone has had that suspicion since he was at Washington. But hearing all that about Martin-Manley is exciting. Even if it's overstated (I'm sure it probably is some), there's only so much overstating that you can do when you have plenty of personal experience in the area you're assessing.

I will add that he's been very supportive of the program since his dismissal. He was very much tuned into the bowl game, and showed his excitement with each big play as much as any fan. He's certainly made mistakes (several, actually), but you can't claim that he doesn't care about this team.

Swing and a miss.

People are looking because of the name Vandenberg, not DJK.

Yes and no. If Jon had posted something like "Miller's take on Vandenberg, 3rd WR for 2011", it wouldn't have generated as many hits as quickly as DJK offering his take on those guys. People are still more interested in Vandy, etc., but it's probably more informative to get a take on those guys from a player.

Well I hope he's right about Vandenberg and Davis and Kevonte. But what do you expect him to say, he's not going to trash his teammates. If Vandenberg had looked shaky in practice I doubt he would come out and say that, so I think you gotta take this with a grain of salt.

Fair enough but I still think the subject is more interesting to most than the source.

Someone posted a rumor a few days ago hinting that Wienke might overtake Vandy. But this would lead us to believe that is not the case.

On the other hand, he's not obligated to say anything at all about the team.

I still like DJK and appreciate the perspective from an insider on next year's team. Hope DJK stays clean and is successful in the future.

Well he is trying to win back fan support and rehab his image and what better way to get Iowa fans back on his side than by hyping up some of his teammates for next year, he knows Iowa fans will eat that up.

^ This. He's being overly gratious (to the point of saying others will pass him) to keep/gain fan support and increase his overall football stock.

^ this x 2, DJK is smart (probably too smart) -He knows how to get to people, both good and bad, He also knows how to play them off of each other. The anti-ferentz sentiment started brewing with the under utilization of "his talents" through his own eyes. that grew into pure discontent of his policies and strategies.

EDIT: it was often tossed around by people that he was the true originator of his own internet hype & persona before signing at Iowa.
