DJK On KGAN last night

Best one ever:

I had a teacher friend who had thought half-assed was actually half-fast. So, she would get after her kids from time to time and remind them not to do their work half-fast and they would do better. She didn't get why her kids would snicker until one of them told her. I would have given anything to get a picture of the mortification on her face when she realized what she had been doing.

Haha.

Since we're sort of close to the subject, I'd like to break down some things my 8 year old daughter has mastered...

- could/should/would HAVE -- it's not could of, should of, or would of...
- they're/there/their -- they're (they are) completely different words
- your/you're -- see above, 2 completely different meanings
- couldn't care less -- if you could care less, it means you do currently care some
- supposably is not a word. Don't type it, don't speak it.
- irregardless -- see supposably

Wow, I feel better.

internet grammar police??

The internet shouldn't be used as a place to ignore the English language and its basic rules.

Absolutely true. In fact, the internet should be the forefront of proper usage of the English language, since so much of our communication is on the internet.

If we do not uphold the rules of grammar, they may fade away. Before you know it, all written communication will look like a 17 year old's twitter account. This has happened dozens of times in history.

from now on we must all use queen's English on here!!!

So I watched the interview. DJK came across as forthright, contrite, and certainly not blaming anyone else.

For me the biggest takeaway came in his admission that he'd had minor disciplinary issues throughout his career. It starkly refutes the posters here and elsewhere who for the last 3 years seemed convinced Kirk "had it in" for DJK and was somehow treating him unfairly.

"DJK tells me there's no one to blame but himself. Not just for the way things ended, but for his strained relationship with Head Coach Kirk Ferentz.
Koulianos: "I could have changed that earlier in my career, by, maybe not showing up to meetings here and there, late. Not getting negative reports, once in a while, from the academic center. Not causing this grief between us where Coach could never really embrace me as a player. He always had his guard up because you never know what I might say next or do next. And it kind of created that distance between us as a coach and a player."

I used to play in a country rock lounge band. The leader would always get a laugh from the drunks when he would announce we were going to play "Some songs slow, some fast and some half-fast."

I don't like the attention he is still trying to draw to himself, even after being booted from the team.

If he is truly contrite, the first thing he needs to do is clear the air with his former coach. He needs to schedule a meeting, show up on time and properly dressed, sincerely apologize for the grief he caused under his tutelage and especially the incidents that got him kicked out of the program just before the bowl game, then tell Ferentz he hoped they could find a way that he could be part of the program's future.

End of meeting. Don't tweet about it. Don't go to the media and let them know you met. We should never hear of such a meeting unless KF wishes to address it. The only way we'd know there was some effort at redemption would be if DJK suddenly starts being invited to future games and events.

he convinced me that he is growing up

we all have done stupid things

I would hate to have people keep track of every mistake that I have made

Although I definitely see your point and do agree with you to some point, I also realized this is DJK we're talking about here. His personality naturally yearns for the spotlight, you can tell that's just the way he is. Although his run in with the law may make him think about his actions more, I don't think it will suddenly make him a silent individual. I just don't see that happening.

He is trying to manage perception so he gets drafted It's called PR. Get over it.

IMO, DJK's contrition is a work in progress. Let's see how contrite he is if he doesn't make the pros as a receiver. What if his only pro opportunity is to go to the CFL or USFL - does it still exist - to work on safety skills? After some reporters marveled about his "added thickness through the chest", maybe being a safety will be his ticket to the pros.

If you like a character who speaks his mind, get him a sports talk show.
