DJK is a college coach

He backtracked on all that once he realized that everyone hated him and his life was going nowhere but in the dumpster.

I've always thought he didn't have any dirt anyway.

When you look at the literally thousands of football players who pretty much say publicly that they'd jump on a grenade for KF it says something. I don't always agree with his coaching style (although I agree with it more now than years ago), but there's no denying that Ferentz is a positive role model in a lot of kids' lives and lots of them had their futures totally transformed by playing on his football teams.

I think the thing is with Ferentz that you get the absolute 100% benefit of the doubt when you come on board (which is important to wet-behind-the-ears college kids), and you'll get a second chance if you screw up, but if you cross him or his staff you might as well be Fredo. You're dead to the program and DJK couldn't come to terms with that.
That absolutely feels like it'd be the case.

Would love to see a reconciliation between he and KF. For all I know there has already been one behind the scenes, but would be nice to see something public like honorary captain. He was a fan favorite, and he has always been supportive of the program (edit:I should probably say he has been generally supportive of the program). We all grow.
If Copeland keeps having the success he's having, we might need a new receivers coach sooner than later. ;)

My take on it was with DJK's failure to finish and getting in trouble I think KF really felt bad and felt some failure on his part as well. From all reports he tried to use a tough love attitude with him and it failed.

Also, lets to be honest he is one of the top 1 or 2 naturally gifted receivers I have seen play at Iowa. I think KF saw the potential in DJK and tried to get him on the right path that KF saw as best for him as a player. KF was let down by him and in turn he felt partly responsible for that and disappointed in himself because he tries to run things a certain way and couldn't get through and maybe he second guessed his methods but stuck to his guns as FryIowa said "he was a Fredo"

I also think DJK had a big uphill battle to get into the NFL after the charges against him regardless if there were any bad things said about him from Iowa guys. Even if they were eventually dropped those specific charges carry a lot of baggage and stigma which would be tough to shake and I don't know if his personality at the time would have been the best to help curb some of the negative press he had gotten.

I personally hope they reconcile. I think it would be best for both of them especially with some of the great memories that they had together as player and coach. Life is too short to lose that bond over something when you can come together and remember the good times and forgive each other. For how he left the program I don't think we will see him as an honorary captain and even coach may be a stretch as long as KF is head coach but I could see a guest speaker at camp and being brought back to honor the 2009 Orange Bowl team.

I was at this game. If for no other reason that this run, I was and am a DJK fan.

Too brash for his britches? Yep.
Left Iowa in a less than honorable way? Yep.
Stud player who played a major part in Iowa's Orange Bowl season? Absolutely.

I'll never forget his last game against Minnesota when he and Coker were the only guys who looked like they cared.

I had no idea he was a coach. Good luck to him going forward.
