Dix gone...

Good for him. He took his time deciding and got the best of all worlds being close to home. Had this happened and say Fran was still the coach I'd probably not have this exact same sentiment. Which many thought woulda probably been the case. Regardless it is what it is now. There's literally nothing Ben coulda done to have prevented this so we move on

That is nuts...I can't wait for some econ wonk to do ROI analysis on some of these NIL deals. In many cases, the money spent probably makes great sense, but that feels like a lot in this case.
Honestly, the folks earmarking that kind of cash are worth so much it's play money. Take a guy like Ted Pacha who bankrolled a bunch of the north endzone remodel...

For that guy $2M is nothing more than what buying a new TV would be to you or me. Is it a significant amount of money? Yep. Do we worry about the ROI on something like that and would it affect our daily lives going forward? Not a bit. It's just a matter of these rich folks having exponentially more play money than we do and that's how they spend it. A different hobby, so to speak. What they're buying is the status and being able to walk into a room full of other rich folks and being the guy who slapped 2 mil on the table like it ain't no thang. It tells everyone in the room that $2 million dollars is expendable to them and that's what they get off on, not the win/loss ROI.

If there's one thing many rich folks like to do it's measure their dicks. That's how they do it

I don't really get how NIL runs, who is handing out these contracts, who makes decisions, etc.

But presumably, each team is working with their own finite pot of money to spread around. $2 million that goes to one player means $2 million that ISN'T getting spent somewhere else.

So, while this might be chump change for some of the donors contributing to the NIL pot, the pot is still finite, and someone has to make decisions about how much gets spent where. So, what helps Creighton more for next year? $2mil for Josh Dix, or $1mil each for 2 guys?

BB has always been a game about stars, and economists have made the argument that NBA superstars are vastly underpaid, and run-of-the-mill NBA players are overpaid. That probably applies here, as well. But Dix doesn't seem like a superstar at the collegiate level...if he was, Iowa wouldn't have been so bad last year.

Everything is just so darn obscure. What is the rest of Creighton's roster getting paid? What is the market value for a borderline P4 all-conference guard? So many unknowns...

Would you resent your boss giving that kind of money away rather than rewarding his loyal employees?

NIL could lead to elitist schools back East to jump in and buy themselves a semi-pro college program.

I know that sounds harsh but is it?

I know some have jokingly referred to BYU as being Harvard West. I am surprised that several basketball players name has been associated with being recruited by BYU. The LDS church is EXTREMELY wealthy and has over 300 BILLION just in cash assets.

They have already forked over 7 million just to one player. This is not the norm for Mormons. If they get into this madness with their wealth they can easily out bid any university for players.

Can you imagine having just one billion dollars to play with?

The only thing that could restrict them would be rules that keep their fund raising classified under tax exemption laws.

The Huntsman’s just themselves are Billionaires. Damn egg cartons. How many of you know that’s how they made a lot of their money? They invented the styrofoam egg containers. They also make other foam containers for shipping a variety of products. So go buy your big screen TV’s and support BYU sports. It’s a rap. lol

Incidentally guess what religion the person was who invented the TV? Yep.

Owen Freeman got 1.8, JD got 2.4 - They also signed another huge piece out of Charlotte that was considered a top guy in the portal as well. Creighton has a lot of money and fan support.

Creighton will be good this upcoming season. Would like to know where some are getting your numbers. I don’t doubt they are getting what’s been posted but NIL is completely a guessing game unless you have some inside info.

Curious- it has been posted that Josh and Owen didn’t get along. So was that bullshit, or did Creighton just buy a soap opera?

Is it fair to assume the bottom half of their roster gets nothing? What about the rest of their starters?

I think college sports is missing out on a huge interest-generator by having all of this stuff clandestine. Look at the NBA...free agency and off-season maneuvering draw more eyeballs than the actual games. If more of this information was available publicly, fans would gobble it up.

Well not much is left to recruit from players who have left Iowa. In some ways I can't blame them. The empty seats show's a lack of support for the team. Then there is the money issue.
