UI Press Release:

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- For the second consecutive season, University of Iowa women’s basketball senior Ally Disterhoft has been named the CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year for Division I women’s basketball. The announcement was made Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Disterhoft is the fifth scholar-athlete to win Academic All-America of the Year for women’s basketball in back-to-back years since its inception in 1987-88 and the second Big Ten athlete to accomplish the feat. She joins Elena Delle Donne of Delaware (2012-13, 2011-12), Maya Moore of Connecticut (2010-11, 2009-10), Karen Jennings of Nebraska (1992-93, 1991-92) and Michelle Flamoe of Oregon State (1988-89, 1987-88) as the only scholar-athletes to be named as Women’s Basketball Division I Academic All-America® of the Year in consecutive seasons.

The Iowa City, Iowa, native is a three-time Academic All-American. Disterhoft received first-team Academic All-America honors in each of the past two seasons, and was the only sophomore to receive the honor in 2015. The finance and accounting major owns a 4.03 GPA and is one of two student-athletes with a GPA above 4.0 on the Academic All-America team. She is also a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten and WBCA Allstate Good Works Team honoree.

On Monday, Disterhoft earned her third-straight All-Big Ten plaudit and was named first team All-Big Ten (Coaches) for the first time in her career. She was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman and All-Tournament Team in 2014.

Disterhoft has appeared in all 133 games of her Hawkeye career and made 113 consecutive starts. On Feb. 22, 2017, she became the second Hawkeye in Iowa women’s basketball history to surpass 2,000 career points and the first to do so since 1980. She ranks second all-time in career scoring (2,022), eighth in 3-pointers made (159), 11th in rebounds (769), and 12th in career blocks (72).

This season, Disterhoft is second on the team in points (16.5) and rebounds (5.5) per game. She is shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 35.0 percent from 3-point range in 32.7 minutes per game.

Congratulations! I talked with her a few weeks ago, she is looking forward to her job at Barclays Investment Bank very much.
Matt Bain has a wonderful article on Ally on Hawk Central at the Press Citizen. It is well worth the read. Her story is extraordinary so Congratulations to her a really amazing journey from 9 year old ball girl to Academic All American Captain(twice I believe). Makes us proud to be Hawkeyes.

I read an article that said they will probably miss the tourney and if they do, her career will be over. Why no NIT?

I believe the Hawks will be in the WNIT. Hopefully they'll play at least a couple of games. The more the better to get experience for the young ones.

I don't get why that article said that. It was go Iowa awesome I think. That or bhgp.

I looked at both articles mentioned and neither said Iowa would miss/skip the WNIT. From what I've heard I expect Iowa to get an invitation and to participate.

I would like to see a game at Carver. Maybe 2.
I'm sure that would be nice, but they really need to learn to win on the road. Even with Ally and Kathleen they play so timid. As I watched the tape of the Northwestern game that just stood out - they were scared as soon as they fell behind.

I even went back and read it again (before I posted on here) to make sure I read it right. It was something about there being a good chance they miss the tourney and if they do it will be an unfortunate end to her career and it talked about the scoring record and her not getting it if they miss the tourney.

What really stood out to me was they just let coffey go. Nobody even tried to stop her. You are correct about playing on the road but getting a couple at home to get them hyped a little before going elsewhere to play stiffer competition would be nice. Lol it could be I want to see them in person. :)

PC I think whoever wrote the article forgot about the WNIT. If we don't get a chance at the WNIT I'll be very pi$$ed!!!!!!! I want Ally to get that record! :)

The case can still be made for Iowa to get an NCAA bid. The possible last team in is the clowns. Iowa beat them head to head, and has the higher ranked strength of schedule. There is a 1 game over all difference between the teams. The rpi is very similar 61 and 57. Also the big 10 would be under represented in the tournament without Iowa, only getting 5 teams in. With the conference being so strong teams protect their home courts very well and wins are harder to come by than in the big 12. So I would still put Iowa in ahead of the clowns.
