seems like most games from 2011 - 2014 wer 11am home games which I grew tired of. Plus, the tailgating crackdown and random road blocks around Kinnick really rubbed me the wrong way.

Its exactly this. Why. in today's TV world, would anyone want to have to schlep all the way out to the stadium, park far away, walk, get roughed up by per mar, get to you crappy bleacher seat and have to pay out the *** for food when instead you can roll out of bed at like 10:50, cook and drink whatever you want while having a much better perspective of the game, not to mention the ability to review your own plays if you want, skip commercials, pause it to **** etc etc. The 2015 Stadium experience just doesnt hold up to the comforts of home.

I'm still waiting for some verification that it was Sally Mason behind the desecration of the tailgating experience. If I was the AD and Sally Mason came to me with that bull spit, I'd walk first. That's an absolutely no win situation as an AD. Your boss just came into the room and ordered you to kill the Golden Goose? Walk out and go to the press or die a slow death by red ink?
The tailgating crackdown ended several seasons back. I believe it was 2010 after the Iowa state game that they finally relaxed the rules. It was really bad for awhile though. We had some cops get really ****** off at us because we had music playing. Like so mad I thought he was going to arrest someone. Those were dark days for tailgating in Iowa city. But then after much protest by fans they literally flipped a switch after isu in 2010 and tailgating has been great again ever since. Unfortunately by then many people were turned off and some haven't come back. If you want to make it to games for cheap, you can get a ticket for $30 or less for most games. I couldn't even give away a free ticket to Michigan in 2013. So if you don't care where you sit and you be a little patient you can get really cheap seats. I'll always be a season ticket holder regardless of our record though

I don't think Mason had any intention of "killing the Golden Goose". I think she is just ignorant, and thought you could "abuse" the golden goose, and it would just stick around and take it.
holy crap, the only excuse left is that people are too busy with the harvest to go to the games.
I don't know what happened to this fanbase. We somehow went from the fanbase nationally renowned for filling bowl game stadiums to unable to fill our own home stadium for a top 10 team.
It's embarrassing and I'm part of the problem. I myself only go to a couple games a year and won't be there for the Purdue game.

They just extended the time you get to leave University property by 1 hour, this past summer. They used to give you 2 hours post-'09. Now they give you 3. They screwed up the lot next to the stadium (no tents?). Is there still no Magic Bus? Sorry. Whatever switch you think they "flipped" is far, far, far from where it used to be.
Nothing compares to being in Kinnick for me. Hopefully, the new TV contracts will make the tickets sales not as important. Therefore, they can allow people to park in the Dental Lot again without having to shell out $1000-$2000 donations, pay the same price of ticket no matter where you sit in the stadium, and drop the ticket prices to about $30 for every game for season ticket holders. That should help I'll bet!
Even though that won't happen, I'll still come to the games on Saturdays. It's in my blood and won't likely ever leave. The original poster is right! I can't believe that we were selling out every game up until last year for much less on-the-field product. Now, we have a once-in-a-lifetime season, and fans stay home. Unreal!

What's so embarrassing about it? Look at what has happened to the price of admission over the past 10 years! Everyone has their tipping point. The price of my RV lot pass went from 1500 to 3000 to 5000 over a 10 year period! Minimum donations, priority seating (which is a pathetic attempt to black mail your fans into renewing in spite of the product on the field, so you don't get stuck with worse seats).
Sorry! You nor anyone else gets to put this on "the fans". Barta/Mason or whomever is responsible for this situation DID IT TO THEMSELVES!!
P.S. Back to enjoying the 9-0 football team!

LOL! Got my Vegas tickets for the wife and I already. That city doesn't sleep! Have friends there who were long time Iowa residents and their son in law is a trainer for Cirque du Soleil. Sometimes it isn't what you know, it's who you know. Plenty of Hawk fans there too.

Nope. Vegas is boring. Lots of glitz, but that's not for me. Gambling? Forget it. I don't go to the casinos here, why should I go to one in Vegas? Lots of poolside stuff, but there are plenty of pools here. And no beaches period. And....... IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF A FREAKIN' DESERT!!!

It's pretty simple, really: 1. The cost of a season ticket has gone through the roof. 2. Sally Mason, a complete and utter self-serving moron, turned off a lot of fans. 3. A truly horrible 2014 season. Having said this, these kids deserve a full stadium against Purdue. I hope they get it

I am betting after Iowa wins this weekend, it becomes a sell out. If you look on the Hawkeyes website, it's not like there are tens of thousands of tickets left....Maybe a few thousand, if that.

It depends where you tailgate I guess. I was referring primarily to the drinking games they banned and they banned music. The week after the Iowa state game you could once again listen to music and play drinking games without fear of some jerk shutting down your tailgate. I don't post game tailgate anyway so that never affected me. I've also never done the magic bus. I tailgate at finkbine commuter. So you may be right depending on where you tailgate, but for many other locations they have completely relaxed the rules.
