I was curious about the man, so I thought I'd do a little research. This quote opens his Bio page.

“I’m not just a football coach. I’m not just here to win games and neither is anyone else (in our program). I could not be prouder of who you are and what we are becoming together... (doing things the right way every day) is our culture, that is what makes us Cyclones.â€￾
-- Iowa State head football coach Paul Rhoads

I'm not sure what the mission is here? It seems to me that the high level goal is 6-6, with the guys feeling good about themselves and what they do together.

This quote plus the recently posted data that shows that ISU is the worst D1 team at graduating black student athletes, or school not just football. That is glaringly bad.

O ya? Link?

I wonder if ISU is proud of this accomplishment? Somehow I don't think they'll be putting this on any billboards..........page 9, left column. This study just recently released.........

http://www.gse.upenn.edu/equity/sit...tions/Harper_Williams_and_Blackman_(2013).pdf

Embarrassed that ISU is in the state. Report calls performance 'disgraceful':

10 Universities with Lowest Black Male Student-Athlete

1 Iowa State University 30%
2 University of South Florida 31%
2 University of Arizona 31%

5 University of Florida 34%
7 Indiana University 36%
7 Arizona State University 36%
7 Mississippi State University 36%
10 University of Minnesota 37%

Iowa is on the opposite side of the equation, graduating black athletes higher than black non-athletes (1 of only 3 in the B10):

I'm not really sure this is fair, there aren't that many black men playing football these days. Let's give ISU a pass on this one.

So Paul says he's not just there to win football games, well, that's ones pretty obvious to anyone watching them play, but what exactly is he there to do? It's not graduate players...especially black ones.

Can anyone come up with what exactly he's been doing there? He shows passion...ok, he's learning to be passionate.

I know, right? I mean when I turn on a college football game, I have to do a doubletake to make sure I'm not looking at a klan rally, or the RNC convention.

Locker room videos. You don't win over Jay Mohr (the guy who does a Chris Walken impression) by graduating players.

And the kids today love Jay Mohr. That's how you connect with high schoolers, you think Tommy ******* Mister would have committed to ISU without hearing about them on Jay Mohr's show? I think not.

Someone should ask if "doing things the right way" involves starting a 2-time felon.

Why not start a two time felon...it's not like they have to graduate them. I'd like to see the NCAA do an investigation into the classes athletes are taking at all schools they govern. If you make sure they are legitimate classes, not "Theories in Recreation" type of classes...how many would be eligible. It should be someone's job to make sure these athletes are actually getting an education, otherwise they don't play. Maybe the NCAA could actually do something benefitial to the athlete...after all, Universities like Iowa State are doing the kids a disservice. I mean, really, how many football players have they sent to the NFL? and you subtract the education, and what did you get...3 years of Paul Rhoads "Proud" speeches is about it. Ok, you can throw in the "KY Jelly Bowl" every 3-4 years. Talk about being short changed.

Even worse, isn't the idea of academic "flexibility" supposed to enable you to field a GOOD TEAM? Talk about fail on multiple levels.
