Did you actually think we'd win BIG?

Fans were so pumped at beginning of season, they actually thought we'd win every single game, BIG Title, BIG tourney, as well as a national championship! Any thing less would be a disappointment. Why set yourself up for disappointment?

If Iowa could do one of the 3 things above, a deep run in the Big Dance is what I want. Still on track as far as I see.

lol. Nobody thought Iowa was going to win the national title, very few thought they'd win the conference. Some people thought they would stop crapping the bed in every close game against a team with a pulse. That hasn't really happened.

I'm typically someone that believes most of these one or two possession games come down to chance, one shot goes in, and another falls away- nothing more and nothing less. But now I think the fault is Fran, he likes playing McCabe down the stretch, and McCabe is not only a bad Big Ten player, but he has proven to be mentally weak. He's not a guy you want to go to war with.

That's why the mother hen press is out to defend him, they know he's weak.

At the beginning of the season I did not think this. 10 days ago after PSU and prior to the Indiana game being cancelled yes I did. We got some help with the leaders losing adn we were only a game out.

I think the team was flying heading into the IU game, then Basabe is basically out against Wisky.

I thought today the hawks would be a game behind either mich or msu with only 4 to play.

I still look forward to some wins, some wins in BTT, and a good ncaa showing.

Because we're fans... What you're suggesting is too much like the Cub Nation syndrome... If you don't have hopes then why even pay attention?

I didn't think we would win it, but sure was fun being I the race this late in the season. I agree we are poised or good post season run

I thought 10-8 at the start of conference play

they will beat that by 1-2 wins

half of the late came shortcomings are having questionable lineups on the floor at the ends of games, half seem to be from kids pressing a little -- fran's system doesn't produce the kind of looks that bo's does (swing the ball around the zone and/or attack the key until you get gasser/brust an open look), so there's more on the player to create (if the shooter coming off the curl isn't open, the lane usually clears out for marble/gesell). gesell is a year away, marble is an overachiever who seems to hit a late-game wall.

this team is a few bounces and seeding quirks away from either the sweet 16 or a first round loss

ncaa in year 4, and the regular season win total keeps rising

imperative that fran hooks a couple top 150 kids this summer, though (though I'll say it now to be mocked later -- I'm changing my mind about ellingson, as more game footage gets posted in the interwebs. sure, he's playing against tommy cheesehead each week, but what he showed in aau last summer seems consistent. he's like a mini-white with a jump shot. deceptive first step and seems to always find a way to get a half-step on his man. underrated gym rat and will be more productive than ogs at each stage)

Yes, I saw magic in my eyes, a couple times this season.
Alas, it all fell apart.
Just hoping for 4th place now.

I just hope we don't fall to 6th in the conference. With Nebraska surging and the fact they have an easier sched the rest of the way it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I'm also going to breathe a sigh of relief when we get to 10 conference wins so we know we have our dance card stamped.

finishing behind Nebraska would be a huge crapper and make me want to puke. Whether it is Neb football or basketball, I simple despise them:mad:

I think this is true to a pretty large degree. Although it's not pure chance - some teams are better than others and tend to make the plays more often while others don't. That said, Iowa has proven that they can hang with any team in the conference for 38 minutes, so I would expect Iowa to win more of these close games than they do, maybe closer to 50/50, rather than losing darn near every one of them. When this trend has continued for basically the past 2 years running, I think it's safe to say that there's more to it than just bad luck. Coincidence becomes trend at some point.

"Why" is the real question at this point IMO.

As for what I thought at the beginning of the season, that is 100% irrelevant in late February. My expectation was the team would be a solid at-large team playing for seed. True, that IS where they are. Problem is, this team is better than I thought they would be, and they have blown so many close games that this year should definitely have been better than it is. Although it is still a solid year, what I think of when looking back on many of our losses is "missed opportunities". Exactly like last year.

^ This is me almost exactly.

Before the season started, this is about exactly where I felt we could/should be. Once we got into the season, yeah, I'll admit I thought we had a legit shot.

I was never quite sold on the hype this team was getting in the realm of final 4 talk, big ten title talk, etc from the media and fan boys alike. I always thought this would be an upper division team ( 4th or 5th place) finishing around 10-8 and winning 1-2 in the NCCAs. And, I think we are still heading on that direction, maybe 11-7 or 12-6.

We blew a lot of chances, but we are what we are. When you struggle to shoot the ball and can't close out games (especially at home) it is going to very difficult to win your conference.

I thought we would finish 2nd. I still think we will win the BTT. I think this team plays the same home or away. This will serve us well in the post season tournaments...IMO. Many teams play much better at home. There are no home games in the BTT or NCAA.

I predicted third (really, I did, look it up if you want to), but thought we had a small shot at a title.

We are were I expected us to be. Disapointing that we have lost all these close games. This league is very tough and that doesn't appear to be changing. Nebraska looks like they will be moving up the pecking order. Who would have thought 2 years ago that Purdue and illinopis would be the worst teams in the league. You know that will not last. MSU and Michigan are not going anywhere. Frickin Wiscy..I swear Bo is the devil. They looked to be heading south in the league and now appear to be the best. Hopefully the Big has prepared us for a deep run in the NCAA.

I just want the Hawks to hit some sort of roll by the end of the BTT. To date, they have not gotten anything going consistently. Win, Loss, Win, Loss. Damned rollercoaster.
