Did the light finally come on?

I am amazed at some of the lineups that end up on the floor but we finally seemed to end the game with a legit C playing the C position.....and we won. Could the lightbulb possibly have been turned on?

I don't think Iowa gives up as many easy lay ups if Woodbury would have been in there. Obviously Olaseni had the hot hand offensively so I think that is why Fran stuck with him.

Olaseni is the guy who needs to be in there in clutch spots IMO. The guy just makes things happen. Most improved player on the team this year, and IMO, not really even all that close.

Woody does some nice things though.. He seems solid on D.

Yes.

Woody is better at on ball defense; Gabe with help defense.

Oh, by the way. Can this same question be asked about the Woody haters?

I think I saw a colossal dunk by him tonight, didn't I?

Fran is starting to remind me of KFz in some ways (few...but some). Instead of waiting for Gabe to get it all perfect...JUST PLAY HIM. His play is solid and he clearly has an even higher ceiling. He won't improve on the bench.

That was an old highlight clip, wasn't it? Yeah, I'm sure it was... :D

To a fault--he gets caught on pick and roll screens in no mans land so often. Tonight it cost him a foul when he hipped checked someone in between the 3pt line and half court. I cringe every time Woody gets caught out there.

For a 6'9" guy that can't get his shoes off the floor it sure looked like a colossal dunk. Maybe it was CGI?

I like Gabe and he played great but when Illinois was hot on offense he was incredibly lost on the pick and roll that Illinois kept running.

gabe was a force tonight, how much more does fran need to see before he starts him and gives him more minutes?

Every good team seems to have that energetic guy who comes off the bench and does energeticy things. That's Gabe for us. Also, it seems that the off the bench, energetic, exciting dude, never does as well when they start. I'm alright with him doing what he's doing with possibly some more minutes. For all the awesomeness he provides, he does some things very, very poorly defensively that hurt us.

Too me he pretty much has to be awesome in getting points and rebounds and blocks (as he was today and against Northwestern) to at least equal and ideally, surpass the easy points he gives up because he is weak at times and does get out of position often looking for the block.

Also Gabe played the second most minutes on the team at a position that's an energy drainer. No reason to knock the amount of minutes he received.

Tonight was a night I would have loved to see a dual center lineup as I think we could have squashed some things and won easier...they both played well.

How does this turn into a Woody vs Gabe thing when they botnh played well?

The Op was referring to Fran having an opportunity to blow the game by going small like he normaly does and chosing to keep a center in instead, and not surprisingly it work.
