Did the coaches call for white to miss that last free throw?

That almost never works.

Better odds to make the free throw and foul. Worse case is down by 3 with 5 seconds.

Dumb in my opinion.

Another terrible coaching decision late.

And no, had Iowa gotten the rebound and made a basket I wouldn't defend the call.

I don't think so Fran was ****** and White ran over to him like he didn't understand.

Tbh I think White has been choking from the line a lot and pretending to he didnt understand and missing on purpose was an easy way out.

I have never seen someone try and miss and almost airball it. I dont get it?

I really don't think Fran said to miss it - I remember reading Whites lips and it really looked like he said "make it" and nodded

And then he panicked and decided and miss it on purpose.

I really believe that's what happnned.

If there was any confusion what so ever with what to do at the end of the game, then Shame, shame, shame on all. Pretty clear what should happen. MAKE THE DAMN FREETHROW..

Anyone with a Basketball IQ knows that!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone else notice that He is almost always short on his first FT? Second is rarely a problem. Would ove to see the stats on this if anyone is ambitious enough to look into it.

he doesnt take his time and concentrate enough. bobby hansen his freshman year was terrible just lobbing them up there but then he started to take his time.

You should never miss intentionally in that situation.

He definitely needs to work on his free throws this off season, as often as he gets to the line it is becoming a liability.

I don't think it was intentional. Nothing to gain trying to go short on the free throw with the trajectory he had on it. Very little chance for an offensive rebound. That said, I'll be the first to admit, that I don't think shooters spend a lot of time intentionally trying to miss free throws in practice to turn it into an art.

White was 7 fo 10 before that one. That is not a bad percentage. I would love for him to be around 90%, but not sure it is realistic.

The hawks inexperience has done them in a lot this year. The hawks are known as a decent FT shooting team, but they do seem to buckle a bit when the pressure is on, again I think that is inexperience. It will get better.

No he didnt and thats Iowa's basketball IQ right now. How in the hell could White think they would want to miss it on purpose? You're down 2, knock the FT in 1 point game. Go for the steal and if you dont get it foul right away with around 5 secs left.

Mccaffery even subbed Olaseni in to be the front man on the press for that reason. Incredible.

I would have called for a missed free throw in that situation.

Why? There was 5.5 secs left in a 2 point game, 1 point game if he makes the FT. Go for the steal, if you dont get it, foul immediately. Even if Wisconsin makes both ft's its still a 1 possession game with plenty of time.
