Dickerson visiting this weekend?

I read on a JC recruiting site he was visiting March 7. I think we need a quick guard that can penetrate and allow Gessel to move to the off guard position more than we need another power forward (Atwood) although it would be great to get both

Does anyone know if they plan on visiting together at a later date?

His defense? His free throw percentage? His height? His speed? His jumping ability? You want a high scoring team, don't you? Well, at least Fran does.

guys...consult the recruiting thread

and no, dickerson and atwood are not taking visits together

and no, dickerson would not start, nor would gesell move to the 2

Why in the world would you take the ball out of Gesell's hands?

Not because of his 115 assist to 38 turnover ratio or 38 steals. His free throw % has been down this year, but was around 80% last season, and he appears to have regained his stroke the last game shooting 5 of 6 from the stripe at crunch time to seal the win.....

We are much better with the ball in his hands, he is quite active and draws attention, leaving our shooters open....

He is a general out there directing the troops.....

mike has also struggled with his shot this year...so you want to put him in the off guard spot, otherwise known as SHOOTING guard?

mike is the definition of point guard and taking him out of that position would just be dumb.

we are offering dickerson because you can't have too much speed in fran's system, because you need a 3rd pg (which may end up being clemmons), and because running dickerson and gesell together for 1-2 stretches in a game could create a lot of matchup problems as they *both* can play the 1 or the 2 and fran loves those interchangeable parts.

gesell is going to be all B1G next year at pg. bank it.

So you're saying you don't want the ball in the hands of people who can jump really high? Maybe we should move Woody to point guard then.

Gesell plays surprisingly good defense, FT% is a concern, but he iced the game on Sunday, height I am not concerned with, with his speed he has shown he can get to the rim about every game in the big 10 with relative ease, and as far as jumping ability, I thought I had heard that he has one of the best verticals on the team? He can dunk very easily. Pretty sure he is one of the more athletic players on the team. Is that what you meant above?

I'm 100% against Mike moving off the ball for the record. For the record, I thought the team was better off with Dev at the point prior to the start of the season and I was wrong so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I don't understand the angst among fans that getting a guy like Dickerson would mean "taking the ball out of Gesell's hands." Good teams need multiple players who are very good ballhandlers and proficient and creating plays for others. Dickerson and Gesell could play together, much like Gesell and Marble play together this year. The other backcourt options at this point next year are Clemmons (don't know what you are going to get), Oglesby (dribble drive is not his game), and Jok (ditto). This team has an opportunity for playing time to replace Marble's skill set. And that is no knock on any of the other returning players. Oglesby has bounced back in a big way, but asking him to do what Marble does is not fair to him and it won't go well. Jok appears to have some skills, but he hasn't demonstrated anything comparable to Marble's ability to handle the ball. Clemmons would be an obvious candidate, but he's struggled all year.

It's why Iowa was in so hard after Ulis. It's not a knock on Gesell or a slam on his ability. It's the reality of today's game where you need multiple guys on the floor at the same time with a wide variety of skills.

People's angst was to a poster that said we needed a player like Dickerson so we can get the ball out of Gesell's hands. Like the ball being in his hands is a bad thing.

I agree with you Dodger. Another way of saying it is that we need more than just Gesell as a threat off the dribble. If that's the case, then he can be controlled, regardless of his speed. With 2 tough-to-control speedy guys in the backcourt, subbing for and/or playing with each other, the offense becomes as potent as I think Fran would like it to be on a regular basis.

Just got off work so sorry if someone already posted this.
Dickerson and Atwood visiting arkansas together. Not good at all. Theyll be going there
