Devin Peterson commits to Wisconsin

Well we will find out what this staff has when it comes to recruiting, there is no quick fix to the 197 lb situation unless another situation like Byers comes along.
 
It's too bad that they didn't make a play on Wilps from Pittsburgh or something. There is definitely no easy fix and even if they get a guy in the next class chances are he won't be college ready his first year without a redshirt...
 
I know Harrah trains with IzzyStyle wrestling, but I am not sure of the interest on either side. I know Devin would have had to grow a bit into 197, but it wouldn't have been that big of a deal. Harrah is a bigger kid, but Devin really manhandled him in their matchup at Junior Duals. Harrah walks around at 200-205 and Peterson was in the 180-185 range. Harrah seems like the next best available and he would need time to get ready for D1.

Tough to "make a play" for a kid who is on scholarship at another school.
 
Looking at the next couple classes the 197 guys are pretty thin. Harrah has had some success but was a 215 for a couple years and came down. He is not overly tall so i would think holding 197 would not be an issue but who knows. He seems to be the type to gas out in a match. If Miklus has a shot for 197 i like that route the best. another Illinois kid who looks tough is Steve Cangenie; he looks very good and is #10 overall by Intermat; he looks lanky but I don't know if he can be 197 or not. Not much else in this class or the next. Dean, Sliga or Coon? Tanner Hall?

Iowa needs recruits at 184, 197, and Hwt. As everyone knows there is nobody at 197 this coming season unless Ambrose can make the cut. That means Wagner (if still with the team as I've read he may move on to pursue medical ambitions) or Lira would have to bump up. That's 3 184lbers to cover 2 weights. Once one of them goes up it would be hard to cut back down if needed due to the weight rules. Gambrall will be a Jr this year meaning we need somebody in this upcoming class who can redshirt his senior year.

Right now 197 is dead for the next 2+ years unless the staff can pull off a miracle.

Next year, 2012-13 season, Telford is our only Hwt.
 
Well maybe coach Ferentz will let the Brands brothers borrow James Morris and Austin Blythe for 197 and Hvy... These guys are great wrestlers im telling you.

Remember a few years back when Jordan McGlaughlin (spell check) a full back on the FB team wrestled?
