Devan Downey - best player in college ?

Devan Downey, from South Carolina, has to be one of the top players in the nation that does not get any hype.

This guy can flat out score. Some of the stuff he does on the court, wow.

Watched him play against Florida and a little last night. He is impossible to guard for teams.

Where does he fit in the national landscape of players?

He is unstoppable with the ball in his hands and some of the moves he made on Wall and other KY players last night were incrediible. It is worth the price of admission just to watch him play.

He is very exciting to watch, but I don't think he's a top 20 or 30 player in the country. He's not the most efficient player, he is a volume shooter and turns it over a little too much. But he is great in crunch time and a good leader for South Carolina.

Based on stats he is a very solid player:

Averaging 22.4 ppg 3.6 apg .350 3pt% 3.4 rpg

but the best, Idk.

I would say he is second tier. A very good player but not quite to the level of John Wall, Luke Harangody, Scottie Reynolds, Sherron Collins, Damion James, John Sheyer or Wesley Johnson.

IMO he is on a level with guys like Talor Battle or Manny Harris: very solid players but certainly not in the nation's elite.

He was 9-29 from the field. 7-24 from 2pt range. He is exciting to watch, but he is not a very efficient player and because of that is not the best player in college.

He is shooting under 40% on the season now from the field. Ouch.

I've watched him a couple of times including last night. He has to be contending for player of the year. He is the team's offense. Top 10 for sure. As said last night probably close to 100 times he shoots a third of South Carolina's shots. Some of the shots he made were incredible.

Wesley Johnson, John Wall, Scottie Reynolds, John Scheyer all have a much better team surrounding them. All these players on South Carolina's team would have to shoot the same amount of shots. Meanwhile the opposing defense knows that they have to stop one guy. Kentucky couldn't do it in crunch time last night. Nothing against the other players, but I can't believe people don't want to put Downey in the same category. They all belong in the same circle.

Reminds me of Andre Woolridge being the best player in the Big 10 and not getting credit for much. Still can't believe he wasn't player of the year in the Big 10.
