Despite loss, I'm sold

This team played very well in loss all considering. Very much reminded me of a Mr. Davis like team. That 2nd half was very fun to watch and the team was competing. Adjustments were made by the coaching staff. This team will only get better.

They played better in the second half. I think we will see many games like this, but that is not unexpected in a young club. Next year we will be dangerous, hopefully. But they fought like the devil tonite and did not roll over. They are going to have to shoot the ball better to really compete. I thought they got good looks for the most part, tho, and that is promising.

I think you meant to post this in reference to the football boards. Or maybe you're just one of those guys that "knows" how to coach.

Positive comments on everything else, but until the talent improves, you're not going to be able to complain about coaching....especially in the third game.

Do you mean "adjustments were made" because then I'd agree.

That press might give up some points, but it is effective in a lot of ways. It starts the team off further down the play clock, they are flustered a bit, etc... I like it. Loved seeing Iowa players flying all over the court.

They could have given up, but they didn't.

Yep, I meant to say made. Not bad. The adjustments were wonderful!!!

I loved the press. Damn typos anyway!

While I like the style of play I am going to give it time instead of emotionally going all in on this right away. I will just sit back and enjoy for a bit and see where things go. I believe Fran is the type of coach we needed but I also liked what I saw from Alford and Lick at the beginning.

I must just be getting older and more conservative when I am forcing myself to reserve judgement for later. If we win great, if we dont I will wait and see if we get better. I dont expect the world to be set on fire, but if it does hopefully I will be smart enough to bring some marshmallows.

The comeback was made with Gatens, Cole, Cully and McCabe on the bench for the most part. Very nice effort.

The staff has great assistants and that's where you will get realization of the talent on the bench. They are the keys to letting McCaffery know what other options could work. It's great to have that option. Not to rip on the former assistants, but you can really see the different level that Iowa is at in that regard, it's not even close.

It will take time, but the foundations of the staff here are excellent. I hope Speraw stick around for a while and doesn't bolt for a HC position. He can really help here.

Agreed, this staff as a whole knows what they are doing, it shows already. Aaron White is going to turn heads, what a find for Iowa and the staff did such a good job to get him on campus and then him signed.
In-game adjustments were an afterthought with the past two staffs and I am not ripping on them either, it was fact. Just look at the last NCAA game Iowa played in and any game in the last three seasons Iowa had a lead in the 2nd half and lost.

I thought the Hawks grew up in this game. They were faced with a situation where they could have given up but they fought back and some bench players really provided a spark. I don't see us beating Alabama tomorrow but we have a pretty good chance to beat either St. Peter's or Long Beach State on Monday. I just hope we never see these refs again. Must have been 3 locals hired for the game.

Had to be the quickest team Iowa has seen. Shocked them for awhile, but mercy did the hawks fight and scrap especially on Off. boards. Love what I'm seeing.

How did Archie look? He has good numbers in the box score, just curious to know if he passed the eyeball test?

Archie looked terrible from the line, but showed some pretty good athleticism. Most stats were hustle stats which I liked.

I'm at a wait and see point right now. I defended Alford for a long time and Lick I stuck with for a while too. I want Fran to be a good coach, I really do, but I just don't know yet. I want to see if he can recruit really.

I kind of feel that if Fran can't do much with our program we are officially a dead program. That would be one decent coach (Alford), and then two terrible coaches. I hope Fran can do it but I won't believe it until I see it. We suck right now.

You would be the only one who thinks White is a steal.

I'm sold on style of play. I would agree that recruiting will be the ultimate tell of his success or failure as coach here. But, in tonight's game, I saw something I had not seen in a long time out of an Iowa basketball team. Even though they lost, I see reason for optimism. This team would have rolled over last year in this game. They fought hard and I found myself getting behind them other than feeling indifferent and longing for something else.

An upset or two this year at home would raise some eyebrows at the very least.

By this logic, you might as well jump aboard and go all-out. If he fails, there's no future. This is the make or break hire. Full fan support would be helpful in Fran's efforts. What do you have to lose by just investing yourself in this hire? Again, just trying to follow your logic.

I follow the team just as much as I always have. I planned my day around watching the exhibition game, got ****** when we lost the first game, celebrated the first real win and followed closely on the internet. I'm invested into Iowa basketball, just like I always am.

I'm just talking intellectually I'm not committing to Fran being the answer and he seems like a good coach. My point was (and I probably didn't present it very well) was that it may not matter who we bring in because the program is in really bad shape it will be tough to bring back. If Fran can't do it, it just seems like it will be further proof of that.
