Desmond King

King falling to the 5th round was a joke. The Chargers made out like bandits in getting him that late.

I saw an recent article somewhere that listed the top draft steals. They mentioned that they didn't put King on the list, because it was too easy, or that it was a given, or something like that (definitely a compliment to King and a slam on those that passed on him).

Marshall Koehn looked good kicking last night for the Vikings. 29 yard FG, made both extra points and the one kickoff I saw went to the back of the end zone. He's got a shot I think.

I'm sure not many on this board are shocked at this:

5. Desmond King, CB, Los Angeles Chargers
PFF Grade: 84.0

Elite Stat: King is 1-of-2 cornerbacks this season to have recorded at least 10 stops (a solo tackle that results in a “win” for the defense, given the situation) in coverage without missing a tackle.

King was playing his best football of the season as the Chargers entered there Week 9 bye, earning an elite 90.5 overall grade the week prior in New England. King ranks 16th among cornerbacks in terms of overall grade and his 83.7 coverage grade ranks 15th.

Yeah, that was so stupid. He wins the Thorpe award and then stunningly decides to come back. Not shockingly, literally no one throws at him. Drops to 5th round. Morons.
He doesn't have the skills of an NFL cornerback so he drops to the lower rounds while the pros decide if he can transition to safety. You know, this isn't all that difficult.

And NFL scouts didn't know that the year before when he was projected to go much higher? I'll pass on your snark.

Agreed. He didn't get any taller or faster in 2015 and magically lose those in 2016. Even people who get paid a ton of money to scout these guys make mistakes. The list of #1 overall draft pick flops is all the evidence you need of that.

I'd love to see the rating on the 45 defensive backs chosen ahead of him. Every one of these scouting teams has their justification. "Desmond's speed in a night game after drinking water on the sidelines for 30 seconds after sitting for 2 straight minutes while scratching his balls, just isn't where we want it." I'm taking the guy who doesn't understand coverages and can't tackle, because scratching his balls doesn't slow him down.

Watch the damn film...and trust what you see...he played NFL receivers...ask Boyd from Pitt what he thinks.

From ESPN: Desmond King's tenacity highlights Chargers' rookie class

Desmond King, CB, fifth round: The Iowa product has been the Chargers’ most productive rookie this season while playing 326 defensive snaps, mostly as the Chargers' slot defender. King has 27 combined tackles, a sack and two pass breakups. "Where he’s come along is he’s a pretty good open-field tackler," Chargers defensive coordinator Gus Bradley said. "And that constantly shows up, too, where he's around the ball and he has his opportunity, and he does a pretty good job. We’ve just got to keep pushing him. He's got a lot to learn in a short period of time." Grade: Above average. (only player given a grade this high)
