Des Moines submits bid for NCAA Tournament

IC would be a better draw.

A better draw than Des Moines? Huh!? Hmmm ... a metro population of 680,000 + ... a great arena ... so much more to do and see ... a gazillion restaurants ... plenty of hotels... yeah, IC would be a better draw ...

Downtown DM has vastly improved over the years, becoming a vibrant energetic area, especially on the East Side, rivaling Omaha's Old Market Area, not quite so picturesque, though.....

NYT reporters commented on the change in downtown Des Moines during the last caucus.....

Also, as has been mentioned, it is not unusual to see empty seats in arenas during the first round. I don't see that as a problem in Des Moines.....

Very true. I have lived in Des Moines for 18+ years and the change in downtown is amazing. I work downtown for a large corporation all of my work peers I talk with are jealous that I work downtown while they are stuck at the campuses in WDSM. Des Moines is not Chicago ... it's not San Francisco ... But it is a thriving mid-size city that will continue to grow and prosper. It is exciting to see all of the changes taking place. The restaurants and brew pub selections is astounding. Kum and Go decided to build a new headquarters downtown ... It's nice to see the progress.

I went to the BTT this past March. Four days/3 nights.

One only has to look squarely at Indianapolis to see how to run a first class big-time, multi-day college BB event.

Superb in every way.

Tons of parking, traffic control, no street punks/thugs around the stadium, a plethora of eateries, bars, motel within a 5 block radius. $5 cab rides, regardless of downtown location and regardless of # of occupants.

(BTW....it should never ever ever go back to Chicago. Ever.)

They'd still be on the bubble.
this year they were pretty horrible, but I think the new coach over there may give them some hope that they could one day rise to the middle of the pack of the MVC. I suppose Drake fan's ultimate goal is not to play the first day of their conference tournament. Dream big Bulldogs.
