Depth-Chart for Miami

Other notes:

-Sleep-Dalton wins the punting job

-Petras earns his way onto the 2 line (along with Mansell)

-Merriweather maintains his starting safety spot

-13 redshirt freshman on the two deeps. That 2018 recruiting class (which also includes sophomores Brents, Merriweather, and Moss) has a chance to be very special.

And the coordinators on Tuesday seemed to indicate that the 2019 class may be stronger (they were certain more redshirts will be burned this year than last). And you know what, 2016 (Stanley, Lattimore, AJ Jackson, Hock, Fant, Hooker, etc.) and 2017 (AJE, Wirfs, Smith, Smith-Marsette, Colbert, Stone, etc.) are turning out pretty good as well.

If Iowa can parlay this into a 10+ win season, add a blue-chipper or 2 to an already very strong 2020, and continue to crank away at 2021 (the most in-state talent in Iowa in a LONG time), this baby just might snowball.

You beat me to it, but seems like one of those things where they wanted to reward Wade and get him on the two deep. Sounds likely Niemann would still be the guy there in the 4-3.

Just like Jenkins isn't going to play if Linderbaum is hurt, it will be Banwart (assuming he is not also hurt). With OL and LBs, it will be the next best guy in. I think that is even true to an extent in the defensive backfield, where I think a lot of these guys have been working at different positions.

I strongly believe the recruiting has been on the upswing, which is going to lead to some talented teams the next few years. We need that to equate to more wins though, last years team should have won more than 9 games.

In addition to Wisconsin who runs a more pro set, teams like Minny and Michigan really try to pound the rock first and have physical lines.

To me, the Cash set makes sense if there is a spread offense AND an accurate QB. But, if the team is trotting out a glorified running back at QB to run more of a spread running attack, I might prefer another backer in there.

It will be interesting to see how the coaches manage these matchups.

If people have not figured this out, they need to study.

Petras is Nate Stanley's heir apparent. They do not want to say that right now, and I do not blame them, but if you put a gun to KF's head, I bet he would name Petras. If he has pulled at least even now, that means he is still ascending. I love Mansell's over all game and skillset, but I think he has a lower ceiling. Petras has an NFL arm and body.

Is there anything to be read in that Petras is listed first? Its not alphabetical or by seniority?

I wonder if it is situational. PM might come in when they want to run special plays or come in against certain defenses where a running QB might be useful.

But if Stanley gets gets hurt and they need somebody to run the "normal" offense, I have a feeling it would be Petras filling in.

Or it could be a sign that the coaches want to see what Petras does in a real game before they actually promote him. Plus the second they make it official, Mansel well be entering the transfer portal.

They don't want either one leaving is my guess. And frankly, no hurry. Let them have a full battle in the Spring.

It may have improved, but so have a lot of other teams in the conference.

That was my point. Stanley is gone after this season, so let the "real" battle take place next Spring.
My point is there is no real competition. The decision is made and their BS’ing everyone with “or”. One is a Davis recruit. One is an OK recruit. I don’t think it has anything to do with who is better head to head. Coaches tend to go with their guy and Iowa is headed twd another 3urs of lack of mobility.

I don't think so.
I think the "or" means they are hoping someone separates themselves.
I expect that if we get situations of mop up time they will both get equal series.

can't believe one week from now I will be tailgaiting again.

It’ll be interesting. Still have a feeling we better get used to some of the same QB play as the last 2 years.
