Depth at LB: a Microcosm of Ferentz's Failure to Plan Ahead With JUCOs

Sometimes the Iowa coaching staff is successful with their player development of a LB when they recruit a, for example, QB/RB? from an 8-man like Chad Greenway. Which Iowa recruits could become LBs? One of those QB recruits, maybe? Whichever are chosen, Iowa could certainly teach the player how to play the Iowa way and instill the attitude Iowa desires.

There are, at least, three problems with filling a need that way:
(1) Can't fill an immediate need
(1A) It takes a few years for the mechanism to be established, and if there is a break in the mechanism as there is now, to takes a few more years for Iowa to reload
(2) Molded recruits don't have a lot of experience in the new position

Dean - stick with things you are good at, like bagging groceries and having mom do your laundry. Do you know what a "preferred walkon" is? If not, look it up. Our 1 star LB recruit brought in to improve the worst LB corp in Big 10 football will redshirt, then take up a scholarship for four years. This is the kind of lazy, second rate recruiting that I have been warning about for three years. How can anyone stand with Kirt and son on this? Literally no other school wanted the kid in the entire country, and we are giving him 4 yrs of free tuition at Iowa at the position with a most glaring need.

He is walking on. Plus Iowa already has 2 LB recruits. My Gawd you are a dipsh!t.

quoted so you can't edit this....you might want to figures out the difference between a grey shirt and a preferred walkon and get back to me. I mean I'm busy bagging some groceries and my mom should have my laundry wrapped up when I'm done working.....when I'm finished up, maybe I'll splain the difference to you.

preferred does not guarantee him a scholarship and I would bet he ends up a FB.

Your act is really annoying

Ok, here is just a little more education for you. A preferred Walkon is a walkon, and as David said there is NO GUARANTEE for a scholarship with this offer. The staff gets to watch him everyday, and if he gets good enough to break into the 2 deeps the coaches will then give him a scholarship. If he isn't good enough he will never earn that scholarship. It takes away ZERO SCHOLARSHIPS from this class, or any future class if he isn't good enough.

This "bagboy" is done with the free schooling for you now. When you'd like to learn more about cruting or Iowa football in general please ask nicely next time.

Blah Blah Blah if you think for a minute we will see anything but BS KF in charge football next year you are sadly mistaken. He still doesn't get that everyone in the Big Ten knows exactly how to game plan him. which makes him a mediocre coach at this point.
