Depressing start to the day thanks Jon!

Not to be critical of posts or psychoanalyze what posters are getting at because 9/10 there is little to no reasoning other than self gratification.
1. Stop trying to bait Jon into replying to threads by criticizing him or making assumptions.
2. Stop trying to decipher what his statements mean as he is quite able to do so if he chooses.

If and When he chooses to reply to threads (which IMO usually NOT) it's because it's often like a pack of starving wolves jumping on a dead carcass, and then it starts all over again with Jon trying to re-interpret what he had originally stated.

.....Have an AWESOME day. Go HAWKS

Never mind just saw you were not referring to my OP. haha

have a SUPER AWESOME day with hopefully a Hawkeye victory.

The way this team has played since after the Wisconsin loss has been disappointing and frankly has not inspired any confidence. They have looked like a fragile team. That said, as this day has worn on, seeing the whole #teampat thing and how far and wide the impact has been, has me wondering. It’s certainly increased my hope….but really, that’s all it is right now; hope that this team can get back to playing the ball that had the likes of Jay Bilas believing Iowa was a final four caliber team as recently as January 28th.

As for me giving up on the Iowa football team, I certainly didn’t pencil them in for the Outback Bowl, following their loss to Wisconsin. But ‘giving up’ isn’t the same as not rooting for them. It’s interesting to read/hear the reactions to my reactions. Some people act as though they are personally offended when I don’t see things the way they see it. Don’t let it ruin your day; I’m just some guy marketing natural gas liquids and living in Tulsa.

I agreed with everything you said on KXNO and even in this post. I am just looking anywhere to find some who sees something I am not to get me a little more pumped for tonight’s game. I have to close at my part time job and get through the night without hearing or seeing anything, and I am wondering if it’s worth it? ;)

I am just a couch critic but your job is to analyze this team further then I do, and if you see the same things I am it worries me that they can’t get that win tonight.

For me I don’t want them to win for Hawkeye nation I want them to win for THEM they just seem so down. I hate to see a team that spent 4 years getting us back to national relevance to not go out on a high note!

I got in my car today to head to work with my normal station of KXNO on. There was Jon confirming all my fears. The head of Hawkeye nation one I turn to for a glimmer of hope when things look grim in the nation. Only to be slapped with reality that it looks like a loss tonight.

I had no idea Fran had called this team “Fragileâ€￾ after the Illanoy game.

For the record Jon I think I would have rather been lied to. ;) Is there any more kool-aid to drink because I might need a double shot!

Go Hawks! Good luck Pat!

Never seen Illinois spelled that way

1. They haven't lost by more than 10 pts. all year and were in every game with two minutes left except the second MSU game. We've beaten or nearly beaten teams better than them all year. You would think we would be in this game with 2 minutes left as well.

2. Gessell and Oglesby go 2-15 combined instead of 0-15 and we win vs. NW, which would have changed everyone's perspective on things. Surely, they won't shoot that bad again tonight, if the law of averages holds.

3. Vegas has us as a 1 pt. favorite. They're right more often than wrong.

4. There were games we were sure we were going to lose in football and yet we won.

5. They've been humbled big time so you'd think that would increase focus for tonight.

There you go. Wow, I feel better even after writing this stuff.

Florida would steamroll this Iowa team. Do I give up on Iowa because they have no chance of winning? No, I still root for them and want them to win

That sounds like if Iowa was playing Florida, you would "give up" on them because you feel "they have no chance of winning." Once you (or they) believe they have no chance of winning, then you (or they) have given up. These terms do seem interchangeable to me. If you give up, you believe you can not win. If you believe you can not win, you have given up. Right?

Someone, whose name rhymes, with Kom Takert, was on the radio in Nashville.
He wasn't optimistic about tonight and predicted Tennessee to win.

This line made my day for some reason. Isn't that the truth for everyone? People get way too worked up over other's opinions!

In reality we are all just "some guy marketing natural gas liquids and living in Tulsa" (well, not that exactly...but some variation/combination of it...you get my drift)

Jon, thanks for being honest and objective. When you are a fan, that is the toughest thing to do. While I sometimes I feel "destiny" can happen, this team has underachieved lately, and simply looks scared at times. While I feel it is absolutely the right time, and "fair" time for Iowa to get a break, win a close game, get the call, and for Fran, the lack of emotion and confidence is so concerning. Only Woody and McCabe show some tenacity. "Businesslike" may not be what they need right now. They may need some real emotional leadership. With all due respect to Chris Street, not sure he would have allowed this to happen, nor Jess Settles, nor Ed Horton and so on. Very concerned.
