Depressing start to the day thanks Jon!

I got in my car today to head to work with my normal station of KXNO on. There was Jon confirming all my fears. The head of Hawkeye nation one I turn to for a glimmer of hope when things look grim in the nation. Only to be slapped with reality that it looks like a loss tonight.

I had no idea Fran had called this team “Fragileâ€￾ after the Illanoy game.

For the record Jon I think I would have rather been lied to. ;) Is there any more kool-aid to drink because I might need a double shot!

Go Hawks! Good luck Pat!

I think anyone who's watched this team and doesn't think they are fragile may be very confused. There's a time for coach speak and a time to go outside of what stays within the team. I totally understand why he'd go public and call this team "Fragile".

Marble repeated that word 'fragile' in his post-game interview as well. So it rubbed off on him.

seems like a strange choice of words for a coach that usally does nothing but pump up his players. How many times did we hear last year how great of a shooter Oglesby was?

Jon is a great Hawkeye. But rember he pretty much gave up on the Football team too. The Hawks will come out ready to play. But a little early success like we had against Michigan would be very welcome

Giving up on a team and expecting them to lose is two different things.

I believe "fragile" is a little off. More like brittle or shatterable I would say. That being said, deep down near my nuts, I have this tingling feeling of a team rising up, weathering the ups and downs and ins and outs, to finally get achieve the result that has alluded them. It will certainly be pleasurable to pull one out tonight.

It is? Sounds like the exact same thing to me.

Depends on your perspective. Iowa may be expected to lose against Duke if they make it that far. I don't see that being the same thing as giving up on the team.. But to think that Iowa has mailed it in and will lose tonight in a game that technically should be more or less even, I definitely think that qualifies as "giving up".

Not to be critical of posts or psychoanalyze what posters are getting at because 9/10 there is little to no reasoning other than self gratification.
1. Stop trying to bait Jon into replying to threads by criticizing him or making assumptions.
2. Stop trying to decipher what his statements mean as he is quite able to do so if he chooses.

If and When he chooses to reply to threads (which IMO usually NOT) it's because it's often like a pack of starving wolves jumping on a dead carcass, and then it starts all over again with Jon trying to re-interpret what he had originally stated.

.....Have an AWESOME day. Go HAWKS

Not putting words into Fran's mouth or assuming I know what is going on, but maybe the fact is that Fran may be grasping at anything he can to help them snap out of it. There are things coaches and players say behind closed doors on a day to day basis that they wouldn't say to the media. That said, maybe Fran went one step further to light a fire and went public with it.

My guess would be that the term fragile has been thrown around quite a bit behind the scenes and were just getting introduced to it. It's not a typical word that just gets thrown out there periodically. I have a feeling that he's calling out the team and questioning that mental toughness as a point of emphasis to light a fire. You can tell a team things behind closed doors something over and over and it may not scratch the furface until its taken out of that private environment and used publicly.

Fran's a smart guy and I have a feeling with this being something said to the media he knew exactly where her was going with it when he said it.

Are you talking to me ?

I was surprised at Jon's negativity and harshness on his recent hoops podcast.

I think he's been so down on this team because their recent skid made all his comparisons to the '86-'87 team look a little silly. He really does seem like he has a strong dislike of this team.

Marble has worked too hard in four years to let it fade away like this. I see them turning in some tough performances before he's done.

I also have Syracuse playing back to form and gaining another title.

The way this team has played since after the Wisconsin loss has been disappointing and frankly has not inspired any confidence. They have looked like a fragile team. That said, as this day has worn on, seeing the whole #teampat thing and how far and wide the impact has been, has me wondering. It’s certainly increased my hope….but really, that’s all it is right now; hope that this team can get back to playing the ball that had the likes of Jay Bilas believing Iowa was a final four caliber team as recently as January 28th.

As for me giving up on the Iowa football team, I certainly didn’t pencil them in for the Outback Bowl, following their loss to Wisconsin. But ‘giving up’ isn’t the same as not rooting for them. It’s interesting to read/hear the reactions to my reactions. Some people act as though they are personally offended when I don’t see things the way they see it. Don’t let it ruin your day; I’m just some guy marketing natural gas liquids and living in Tulsa.

Nope. Down on the team because they've played uninspired ball..and my comparisons to 1986-1987 were about DEPTH. This is the deepest team since that team. I still stand by that.

That said, I did say I felt this team was better than the 2005-2006 team, at one point. I don't feel that way any more.
