Denard Robinson = OWNED

i disagree slightly here homer...i think we CAN expect picks on denard. maybe not in the red zone like MSU did, however i don't feel that denard is as great of a passer as what he was given credit for and i think a few picks are definitely not out of the question.

i agree, we can't expect 40+ yard runs all day as Arob just doesn't have the breakaway speed to pull off such feats, but that plays into iowa's gameplan more. methodical, hit you in the mouth drives is what iowa loves to do. we will wear down and already awful defense and open up the passing game more than it will already be open after the opening kickoff.

just my thoughts after watching the game saturday

ARob could have scored through a couple of those MSU holes. He doesn't have break away speed but he sees holes and makes people miss, and UDR secondary weren't exactly putting on a clinic of wraping up.

Much as I hate the "one game makes or breaks a season" approach...Saturday is a big one. Win and we look like we're legit. Lose and all the critics will say we've been revealed. And both are likely true.

Even though ball control sounds like the way to win this game, WE NEED TO SCORE.. and 2 offensive touchdowns/game ain't enough. And if we can't put up some point on THIS defense, I'll be throwin stuff at the TV.

I think we hammer him and we get to see the 2nd string quarterback by the middle of the 3rd quarter for one of two reasons. 1) He got smoked by out D line or 2) They are down big and he is struggling big time.

Regardless the home team will turn on the coach.

Let me remind folks ... we have yet to win a game on the road yet this year. The Hawks are going to have to be VERY focussed throughout the ENTIRE game. And, as is always the case, it will require a COMPLETE TEAM EFFORT.

I do kinda like Iowa's chances of getting picks ... especially considering that Iowa will invariable keeps a safety back. However, that said, Iowa's safety play contributed to some of Arizona's long pass completions. Thus, our secondary is going to have to play VERY solid ball ... because Denard CAN throw it. Furthermore, Odoms, Hemingway, and Roundtree are a pretty formidable trio.

Lastly, MSU's secondary might be a bit maligned ... however, the group CAN play VERY physical ball. Sometimes that gets them in trouble ... but on other occasions, it helps them to beat blocks and knock WRs off their routes. While I love the upside of Iowa's CBs ... I have my concerns about how they match up against Michigan's quality WRs.

What's more ... I'm concerned about how much "thinking" our CBs have to do ... because they're definitely going to be concerned about defending the run too.

If Iowa Offense picks up the UDR Blitz (which will be coming over and over) and makes them pay=Game over. UDR will not keep up.

If Iowa allows the UDR blitz to be effective=Long tough day.

Turnovers are always the wild card... I'll leave them out. Straight up mistake free game, I think this is where the game will be decied.

I agree with that. Ezeh and Mouton are playing much better ball this year. I wonder how effective they'll be defending the TE this year.

Iowa is 0-1 on the road this year. C'mon, lets be real here....Iowa is 3.5 pts favorites? I will take Michigan and 45 points, and bet the ranch.

Me? I just want to win by one point. All season. Polls mean crap...could not care less about them. All I know is that if Iowa wins by one point the rest of the year ,the Hawks are headed to the Rose Bowl...that is the goal.

I feel like if Sash can put a good lick on some of Michigan's receivers, Michigan's passing game will be held back severely. They didn't appear to react well to getting popped by MSU's secondary, and started dropping passes. If we can keep Robinson in the pocket on a pretty consistent basis (I do think he gets loose a couple times), and pop their receivers, then our defense shouldn't have too much trouble. Containing Robinson is easier said than done, however.

And I am headed to the hair loss clinic. Or picking up a bottle of this:

Just For Men Touch of Gray Hair Color - Black/ Gray (1.4 oz.) : Target

Our TE play as well as our backs slipping out of the backfield vs staying into block will play a crucila role. I am hoping that O'keef has a nice dose of screens, draws shovel passes to go with the stretch runs and the waggles. I also hope that they have someone account for a blind side corner or safety when we run a waggle.

i think if we limit denard's running lanes forcing him to throw it from the pocket or on the run, iowa dominates this game. i honestly don't feel he can throw as well as some people feel he can. i also feel that if one of our defensive linemen(pick one) pop him solidly just once, he will start to buckle.

i also agree with 3308 about the receivers for michigan

Denard can pass the ball well when his guys are in man coverage. He also seems pretty decent throwing the slant against zone coverage. However, if the opposing D tackles well and limits yardage after the catch ... then that hamstrings Michigan's passing game. Rich Rod's O relies pretty heavily upon yardage after the catch. Just basically another extension of their running game.

Anyhow, even Nesbit could look good when passing the ball when his guys were in man coverage. He wasn't nearly as good when there was help over top.

I think you may be correct on his ability to consistently throw from the pocket. DR does throw some very nice balls, but I wonder about his consistency and patience if you force him to be a pocket qb. I have a suspicion that sitting in the pocket he will begin to force things. I don't know if that is true or not, and I think it's easier said than done but ther you go.

If Michigan is ahead ... then I don't think that Denard forces things as much with his arm. However, when they're playing from behind, he appears to press things a bit more. At least, that seemed to be the case against MSU.
