Definitive Greg Davis poll

Once and for all. Should he stay or go?

  • Greg Davis should stay as Offensive Coordinator

  • Greg Davis should be fired as Offensive Coordinator

Results are only viewable after voting.
Playing calling hasn't been the issue, offensive line, lack of receivers and execution has been. And I'm not a huge GD fan.

It's maddening, but Iowa's offense is largely based on linebackers and offensive linemen.

Not buying this at all. Like Boat said there is more to OC than play calling. KOK regularly out passing offenses out on he field hat averaged in the 50's nationally and even top 30 a couple of years. Greg Davis is spitting out #90 ranked or worse passing offenses year after year now.

Does he have to give up his buyout money if he coaches somewhere?

I dont think so, USC I am sure paid out to Lane Kiffin even though he is coaching somewhere else. One contract should have nothing to do with another.

Any coach who signs a contract that includes your buyout stops if you get other employment should fire his lawyers and agent.

First of all, we have no idea what Brain would do in the passing game.

Second of all the Greg Davis passing game is soooooo bad that I would gladly take leaping into the complete unknown of the Brian Passing game over sticking with Greg Davis who produced the #99, #93, #89 and #114 passing offenses since he has been here.

A new OC who is maybe run heavy can always have KF hire a passing game coordinator. Do you see how many support people and coaches work for these teams. If Brian F were to be OC and maybe remain Off Line coach then they can replace Davis with a really good QB coach and passing game coordinator.

I dont know the details but I am not sure KOK and GD were that great of QB coaches.

Iowa ranked 118 out of 128 teams in total offense. Sure, we finished the season the season well, thanks to our defense. Our offense didn't do their part and Davis should be held accountable.
This is why you get paid the big bucks Kirk, to make tough decisions; although this one isn't all that tough.

I voted fired because I really want him gone, but in reality, I don't want him fired. I would be more than thrilled if he retired. I think there is some evidence that he did OK with what he had to work with but there is more evidence that statistically, we are one of the worst offenses in the FBS, and not just this year. I think at the end of the day that is a valid objective enough reason for Kirk to say "why don't you hang your spurs up Greg." Greg resigned from Texas after having a bad year but that offense was still ranked better than any he's fielded at Iowa. Sure there is a talent gap but its time to just move on.

He could be encouraged to retire like Campbell, Wilson and Erb were encouraged to seek other employment. Technically, they weren't fired. Semantics, thought. They were no longer welcome here.

His offense just hung 40 on the Nebraska Black Shirts. You don't do that against a team with a resume of several conference championships, and multiple National Championships without being a brilliant coach. When you dominate a storied program like Nebraska, how can you want to change the offensive mastermind? It just makes no sense. I don't have time for this...I have to go prepare for Y2K.

I'd be really surprised if he wasn't here next year. Makes too much money to retire and he won't get forced out

To a point yes, but I'll take KOK over GD every time. Give us a coordinator slightly better, or on par with KOK, that's not asking a lot.

KOK-amnesia-syndrome is why there are no brighter days ahead on offense. Hayden Fry elevated the expectations of the Hawkeye fanbase. Kirk Ferentz has lowered it. That's his legacy. As long as Iowa is at least one-win better than Iowa State Barta will be happy. Maybe Bowlsby and Barta are a symptom of the boosters? The USA gets the leaders it deserves, and the Hawkeye fanbase gets the irrelevancy it deserves. If only people were smart enough to realize that ambition is what motivates the success Wisky enjoys.

It's sad that these are the expectations we have of conservative Kirk. Don't get me wrong, they're completely warranted but Davis has been at Iowa for 5 years and just engineered the worst offense under Ferentz with the most wining QB in Iowa history. The 2nd worst, being his first year, also under a senior QB.
118 out of 128 should be enough to be forced out, and hopefully it is. This season ended on a bright spot but at 8-4 it was still disappointing and the offense in itself had little bright spots all season.

You lost me here. I don't think ISU is on the minds of Ferentz, Barta, donors or anybody involved in UI Football...

It's okay I'm not trying to lead you. I stand by what I said because it was figurative. It was meant to convey that many people (including Deano and Barta and many/most people in this thread) don't even care about wins and losses.

They care about 2 things.

1) Being able to claim (however falsely) that Iowa is classier than other programs.

2) The reason number one is true is because of KF.

First, Iowa isn't classier. As an Alum I've followed Iowa for a long time and Kirk hasn't elevated Hawkeye classiness.

Second, Kirk as a human being and a coach suffers from all the same problems most people do. He is riddled with faults. He's not special. And I mean that quite literally.

So I will always stand by my statement that our WEB fans (a psychotic vocal minority of them) and AD will always set the bar just above pathetic.

Now if you wanna say the program is where it was under HF that's a fair argument. The difference being HF never was satisfied unless Iowa finished number 1. KF on the other hand thinks 7 wins is a sign of accomplishment. There's the difference imo. One guy was disappointed if Iowa wasn't the best. The other guy thinks that attitude is stupid cuz we're just little ole Iowa. One guy scheduled powerhouses . . . the other guy schedules directional schools (and can't beat them).

LOL, the last 11 years of Hayden Fry he won 7 games or less 7 times.

Even though you are the Grinch Josh, I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I would do this.....
