It's pretty unreal when you sit and think about it but look at what we have going on with it right now. From the start of the year we have replaced all 3 LBs (all of them were inexperienced as well but never the less they were who were at the top of the depth chart) and now both starting corners (with freshman mind you) and have been playing really well.
Parker last week had a 3 safety look quite a bit of the game and I imagine that may continue. He's just done an amazing job yet is so rarely talked about as being one of the best D coordinators out there. He's put countless DBs in the league over the years and isn't remotely slowing down. Plus as good as our Dline is as a lot of talking heads have mentioned we are a bit undersized as a group there. I just hope we aren't taking Parker for granted. He's been KFs best hire and I don't think it's all that close. I'm glad he didn't look very far when he promoted him to DC after Norm...

I honestly think Parker is content being a coordinator. It's obvious he likes working with Kirk and is loyal to him, and has had plenty of chances to go take a higher pedigree job but hasn't. Just goes back to the stability that Iowa values.

What other jobs has he been offered that we know for sure?

That we know of? None, but half of the coaching search is putting yourself out there, not simply waiting for teams to come to you. In fact, the fact that we've heard absolutely nothing about Phil leaving since he got the DC job also indicates that he likely has no interest in leaving.

IMNSHO, a P5 DC job would be one of my ideal jobs in the world. You have decision-making authority, have a large impact on the team and your players, get paid well, but deal with very little of the bullshit that a head coach deals with.

He currently makes $725k base.

Who gives KF BS? Wouldn't that come from the AD? Catcalls at games? Comes with the job for about any coach unless you are currently at Alabama or OSU....or NDSU.

I was referring to all the overhead that a head coach deals with. Press conferences, I-Club meetings, schmoozing, glad-handing, etc. Yes, it comes with every P5 head job. I never said it was specific to Iowa.

I don't think Phil wants to deal with that. He wants to coach football.

AND, Since he is a University of Iowa employee he can contribute up to 5% of his income and be matched with 10% by the University into TIAA/CREF retirement account. CREF is an unbelievable retirement option with multiple opportunities. I worked for the U for 21 years and it built a significant Nest egg for me before I moved on to another employer. For parker that is 108K into a retirement portfolio that has the choices of High/Medium/low and secured risk investment. not too shabby.
