Defend this staff

After the terrible losses to Minnesota and Iowa State in recently years, we now have sunk to the level of losing to Central Michigan at home. I never thought the Western Michigan debacle would have been topped either but it has.

Kirk Ferentz, you simply make too much money for these garbage results.

I'd love to hear someone defend a staff who crapped the bed today in just about every way possible. Offense, defense, and special teams. Oh, and let's not forget epic clock management again.

I've stuck up for Ferentz in the past but I am officially done with him and his decisions. Greg Davis was a nightmare, and the program has gotten worse since 2008.

Fire away.

I personally cannot defend the staff that stayed too long, and finally left last year. But that's me.

Who is the special teams coach? That guy should be fired tomorrow morning for the not one...but TWO onside kick adventures.

I'm also tired of Greg Davis and his garbage passing attack. I understand Vandenberg is regressing, but this guy is terrible and Texas fans (along with myself) warned everyone he was bad news.

Sitting in the north end zone gave me a whole new perspective on this team. The offensive adjustments are terrible. Not once, that I can recall, did CJ run a seam route. The seam was open all day long and rarely was anyone there. KMM was there on the missed 4th down but JV looked off of him real quick even though there was no one within 15 yards of him when the ball was thrown to Davis. I'm gonna stop now before I write a novel.

I too was in the north endzone and the passing game was maddening. How you cannot get a 6-7 TE like CJ the ball baffles the mind. Vandenberg continues to lock onto ONE target, and then throw to the bail guy if he is covered.

Thats the thing people like to throw stones after people have left.

No, if you do a search of my posts, I'm on record while they were here, that they were staying too long. One needed to go due to level of competence, the other due to inability to do his job per health issues. Including recruiting. Trust me, I'm on record from the first day I posted on here, and there is at least one thread, about 16 pages long, where I was called every name in the book because of it.

I was in the North endzone also. Vandy is worse than I thought. I have not called for the backup QB since Brad Banks' Junior year, but it's time. Vandy has no clue what's happening out there.
Tgis team had 0 discipline today. Stupid mistake after stupid mistake. That's coaching. This program after back to back mediocre seasons is going backwards.

But yes the O-line played well today

It is amazing that Iowa has won 2 games this year with the talent they have, or lack there of. I think Ferentz should be in the running for coach of the year. No one will have done so much with so little.

(how did I do?)

The team doesn't have a leader at head coach so the qb HAS to be a leader and Vandy isn't a leader. The O line, running backs, Meyer and hell Weinke are a making plays the rest of the team looks uninspired and soft.

I don't know if it was coaching or mental error on the onside kick gaffe, but that was bad execution either way.

The players are responsible for controlling there actions and the personal fouls post play is on the players.

I can't defend the confusion and subsequent timeouts...coming off a timeout.

We simply don't have enought Experienced talent to allow for much error. Honestly, there are more than coaching problems to lose to Central Michigan at home.

-JVB still makes just a couple too many errors (i do think he has gotten better each game but still panicks too much with any pressure on hime)
-Coverage HAS to get tighter (either that or the players need to understand the schemes better - not sure which it is)

I think the coaches definitely have a few errors but don't think its the primary reason for this loss.

NOt about to defend the coaches, but ask at what time do we put it on the team rather than simply the coaches. 100+ yards in penalties, failing to recover an onside kick, and let's not forget a QB that is currently on pace to finish the season with 3 TD passes.
Yeah, let's put this one soley on the coaches.
