First off, Saturday's loss SUCKED. I was more devastated by it than is healthy, but I've finally moved into the acceptance stage, so in the spirit of healing:
"You can't keep blaming somebody else for your dysfunction. Life is really about moving on." —Oprah Winfrey
Yes, there are a million little things that theoretically could have swung the game in our favor, but the bottom line is—we didn't turn in anything close to a solid game of football, so we lost. We almost won anyway, but we didn't deserve to.
"It is worth remembering that the time of greatest gain in terms of wisdom and inner strength is often that of greatest difficulty." —Dalai Lama
I'm still glad we played this game. We have some major weaknesses as a team that were exposed in AZ. I would rather play a good team non-conference and get a realistic view of where we stand as a team then wait until big ten play to learn about areas in which we are insufficient. Ultimately, the big ten record is what matters most.
"When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us." —Alexander Graham Bell
A chance for a national title shot is gone. The opportunity for an amazing season is not. As a fan, I'm ready to refocus on the goals that are obtainable and look for the improvement we will need to achieve them.
“Look at life through the windshield, not the rear view mirror.†—Byrd Baggett
I'll be in Kinnick Saturday screaming my lungs out when the Hawks take the field, and I have a feeling I won't be alone.
(To clarify in advance for anyone who may not be on my wavelength—while my comments are serious, I'm engaging in a little self-mockery with the quotes.)
