dear bo ryan...

From Grantland.com article --> About Last Night: Badgers Bow Out - The Triangle Blog - Grantland

The Wisconsin Badgers hit 14 of their 27 3-point attempts, but it wasn't enough to hold off the efficient Syracuse Orange, who advanced to the Elite Eight with a 64-63 win. Fans of the Badgers' plodding style were heartened to see their team finish the season by running the stall offense while trailing by three with a minute left, and then stalling again on the last possession before Jordan Taylor was forced to throw up a low-percentage 3. Reporters asked Bo Ryan about the curious strategy, but he spoke so slowly that they were unable to transcribe his words, and then custodians threw everyone out of the building because it was 3 a.m.

That's the point, both teams waited too long to start their move and ended up with horrible shot selections. A desperation three when you only need two for the win is pathetic.

You see this time and time again in last shot situations in college basketball and I just don't understand it. A team is behind by 2 and they want to jack a 3. If I remember correctly there was a Wisky player that got the ball around the elbow and appeared to have a driving lane for a short jumper or dish off and he chose to kick it out to Taylor. As soon as that happened they were screwed.

I checked the Badger forums looking for meltdown fodder and found very little. Most was like, "Oh well, we had a good season, etc."

I was stunned by the lack movement in their offense all night. Especially at the end. Everybody just stood around and waited for Taylor to win the game. No picks no drives, just chuck up a three at the end.

One guy (don't know his name) even got his defender in the air. Could have easily drawn a three shot foul. But no just turned and gave the ball to Taylor. That was the worst end of game possession I've seen in this tournament.

I'm a fan off no timeout if you are in a scramble, liveball situation after a missed shot/free-throw. But once the ball went out of bounds and allowed Syracuse to get back and set its defense, might as well advance the ball to half court and call a timeout to set something up.

Bingo. I mean even if that isn't a coaches "style" that seems to be the way that actually works more often then not.

Watching the Badgers for me is like watching eye surgery. It may take precision, but it still turns my stomach.

Run and gun for fun! Go Hawks!!!!!!

Go to the basket. They were in the bonus. Make a play toward the rim and see what happens. The last-second 26 footer is rarely a good option.

Agree with Eddy P and I am no Badger fan. WI hung with a team 100X more athletic with a roster that outside of Jordan Taylor, Lickliter could probably assemble. Evans had a bad night and he is really their only inside / outside guy. Execution on the final play was sketchy for sure and I think Taylor could have thrown a lob to one of the two WI guys standing under the basket for a dunk with all the Cuse defenders on the arc.

I would rather lose in the Sweet 16 than in the Not So Sweet 32 in the NIT.

Wilson got the pass from Taylor out of a double team with 6 seconds. He should have drove to his left diagonally across the lane immediately. He would would have split the two guys attempting the double team. One was trying to roll off Taylor and was way late and the other came up from Gasser in the low right. That guy would have had to foul or Wilson gets an easy shot or a pass and even easier shot by Gasser. Was poor execution, but the play was there to be made.

I saw Ryan motion to Taylor, Wisky's point guard, and read Ryan's lips to go for one shot with approximately 15 seconds left in regulation.

Side note: could Ryan please teach Fran some defense?

The Wisconsin player who had a shot but passed the ball to Taylor was more than likely doing exactly what Bo wanted, Taylor taking the last shot and nobody else. That has been the pattern for quite a while.....

Get the ball to Taylor and let him dribble around and attempt to get a good shot in the closing seconds.....

They played Syracuse to the last shot, nothing to be ashamed of.....

I am getting tired of Bo and his childish antics on the sideline, and reprehensible recruiting practices.....
