Deace's Meltdown

Is there a more important tangible stat than tackles for a linebacker? He's also intangibly the most important player on that defense. Sure the Butkus award is subjective. I believe Butkus himself and some others that are apart of his group that watch as much football as the media people that voted on it too. The coaches usually have assistants do their voting because they don't sit around watching tape on all these guys other than the week of when they are preparing to play them. You and I probably have seen more of Watt and Peppers than KF and any other HC coach. To say one award is less subjective than another is kinda pointless I think. They all are if your not basing it on tangible stats.

So by your logic we should give the All B1G 1st team to the guys with the top 3 total tackles and the 2nd team to the next 3?

No looking at sacks, tackles for loss, interceptions, passes defended, forced fumbles?

Said it before and I'll say it a million times. No other way to do it than to have an 8 team playoff

-P5 champions all get in. No exceptions.

-3 at large spots spelled out with defined criteria before the season starts.

No one could argue it at all. Your team wants in? Win the respective conference. How much more clear could it be?

I despise the last month and a half of football because all you hear are the talking head imbeciles arguing on ESPN about how Clemson or Washington or Michigan or OSU or Colorado or Penn State or blah blah blah deserves the last spot, to be chosen by the sacred oracles that are the CFP comittee. To make it worse the Illuminati get together in their super secret bat cave and give little teasers every week on who they think is the best right now. All with no reason why or how.
That's why Ive pretty much stopped watching ESPN College Game Day. I've started watching the Big 10 Networks pre-game show on Saturdays when Iowa is on the road.

As far as the Butkus award that's nothing more than a bunch of people at some foundation with no connection to football.

You are just wrong here. The selection committee is composed mostly by NFL front-office employees. It does have some media analysts, and a few college head coaches. Nick Saban, Kirk Ferentz and Pat Fitzgerald are the college coaches on the committee.

These are football people with an absolute connection to football.

I stopped watching College Gameday because Lee Corso has late-stage dementia, and one of these days that guy is going to take off his pants, throw poop around on the set, yell at Reese Davis the he stole his baby while dropping F-bombs and trying to grope college girls.

So far he's only done two of those things.

That guy should not be allowed out of the nursing home, let alone near a microphone.

I didn't say that. I asked if there's a more important stat than tackles for a LB. You could make an argument for causing turnovers being more important sure. I'd listen to that. But I'd prioritize the season he had over Peppers defensivly overall no doubt. Does that mean he Peppers wasn't more impactful overall with along with the other stuff he does with the ball in his hands? No not at all but I'd separate those two things.

The home team is supposed to get a few calls. The referees are human beings and it is human nature to be influenced by rabid fans. Bottom line, Michigan was outplayed in both the Iowa and Ohio St games in the second half of each; kept it too close; and ultimately lost at the buzzer. Great teams overcome road adversity: Ohio State did it against Michigan State and Wisconsin!

Also, as mentioned above, the roughing the center call in the Michigan game was completely ridiculous and almost cost Iowa the game (that call is NEVER made)

Wow, excellent copy/paste skills and I appreciate the effort, but if you think I'm going to believe that those folks all take more than 15 seconds of their lives to tell their secretaries who their votes are for than we don't have anything to talk about. Give me a short list of any of those people who have even watched an entire Hawkeye game.

As a college football fan, I've come to accept the fact that most, if not all, ref crews are bad. Until the NCAA gets their shit together and pays these guys good money and requires a certain level of training (like NFL officials), it will continue to be this bad.

You are shown as being completely wrong, and you continue your attacks. Typical. Move the goal posts and show how stupid you are.

You are as big a cry baby as Deace.

I like Deace, but Michigan complaining about officiating is like the Queen of England complaining that she didn't get enough cream in her strawberries and cream....sure, it sucks, but you're the freaking Queen of England, so get over it!

On a side note, Deace asked in the podcast if there was an example of a more egregious officiating job than that game....apparently Deace never watched the 2006 Outback Bowl. It was so bad against Iowa that the NCAA put in a new rule that said that non-P5 officials could never work a P5 bowl game again.

Let's look at it logically.
1. FCS has 125 member schools and have a playoff consisting of 24 teams.
2. D2 has 121 member schools and have a playoff consisting of 28 teams.
3. D3 has 438 member schools and have a playoff consisting of 32 teams.
4. NAIA has 246 member schools and have a playoff consisting of 16 teams.

Now, since FBS has 128 member schools, perhaps at least 16 teams for a playoff? Then set it up so that the final is played on January 1. Have all bowl games (which would now mean nothing for a national championship) be done before mid-December.

The FCS doesn't have conference championship games in order to accommodate the playoffs and I don't think there's any way you'll ever get the P5 to go along with that. Their seasons are also longer, and by doing that they go right through finals time. Another thing I don't see larger universities agreeing to.

You'd also have to eliminate a bunch of non-cons at the beginning of the year and there's no way P5s are going to give up revenue from more cupcake home games.

I like the idea, I just don't think it would fly like an 8 team bracket would.

I wouldnt say it that way that the home team is 'supposed' to get a few calls. They shouldnt be given a few calls but as you say they usually do.

Now can you honestly say that Iowa got way more calls for them than NDSU and jNW at Kinnick this year? I watched the games in person and watched replays and either those officials were somewhat incompetent, have poor eyesight, or just didnt want to call anything on the visitors those two games. Not trying to look at it through black and gold tinted glasses either. NDSU either planned or took it on themselves to tackle Josey Jewell a few times that game.

What do you say to that?

Not sure how much they get paid but I bet it is pretty well.

Deaces Michigan tears are delicious .
