today with the other Frosh and KF did not mention him with the other frosh who had a class conflict.

Significant or not?

his fb picture is back to him wearing his iowa jersey - he had switched to a picture of himself in hs gear when he said he was leaving.

hopefully it works out for him, but odds are not good, i'd guess.

kf said on his radio show - i think - that he was battling an injury i believe. someone can correct me if i heard this wrong.

i believe coach actually said "medical problem" FWIW

i was going to include that as an either/or (illness is what i thought) as i thought he said something along those lines, but i was half listening half not. so i think you are right. maybe this is more to the story along the lines of the fullback with the heart condition?

I have something I can share on the John Raymon story.

I don't think I have seen this anywhere, but I have some insight into his situation.

By all accounts John is a great kid. But he did not have a great childhood in terms of the opportunities afforded him. It is kind of like the “Blind Side” story. When he got into high school, I believe (but it might have been earlier, I am not sure), he met a family that took him in and I believe legally adopted him. They are his family and parents now. Last season he had a back problem and played through it with the help of an epidural (like the shot they give women in labor sometimes) and that helped his pain and he played.

He has had back pain again this year and no epidural and he views it as an injury and not pain that he needs to fight his way through. That led him to think that he was injured and coaches wanted him to play with an injury, which he didn’t think was cool. Along with all of the new stuff in going to college and being on his own he then felt like he wasn’t in the right place. That is what caused all of the ruckus a few weeks ago.

His parents feel that Iowa is a program that will have their son’s back and have stressed that he needed to tough it out. His mom decided to move to Iowa City to make sure that he stayed at Iowa. That is where we were at before I saw this post. I know nothing about the breakfast this morning, except that those things are pretty early for a typical college kid, if you don’t have to go to them:)

I hope this helps take away some of the mystery of this fine young man, who I have been told never lifted weights in his life until last year. He really is a great kid that has overcome a lot and could be a great asset to Iowa. By the way, I am not a friend or a relative of his, nor a friend/relative of a friend/relative of him or his family. I just kind of know the story in a roundabout way. I thought it was important to tell this story so that people didn't get the wrong impression of him based upon what was going on a few weeks ago.

Thawki -- that is good news I hope you are right on. Thanks

I will second that. Thanks for posting, Thawki. 'Splains a lot. Hope it all works out for him. I've had a couple injections at the bottom of my back to block pain; is that something he could (would) consider?

I am no doctor but it just doesn't sound right to ask someone to take shots to play when their back hurts? I also don't think the team doctor or coaches would ask the player to do something that might injure the player further.

Well not to defend bad decisions but its really hard for coahces to tell the difference. I am very glad that John stood his ground and I hope the coach in this case wasn't an A hole because then they need to be spoken with.
My son had a similar circumstance and well the coaches drove him away and well were flat out wrong. Teammates took the same attitude as well.
Its really hard to watch my son not be involved and at 6"4", 287 lbs running a 4.75 40 he could have helped alot.
