DC by Next Wednesday

This leads me to believe that the DC is coming from the NFL and likely from either the Patriots or the Giants. To coincidental that the process has drug on this long and it not to be.
I agree, but I don't understand if it is from the Pats or Giants why they had to wait until they were done playing. NFL teams can't talk to other coaches until those teams are done but there are no such restrictions for NFL assistants to talk to colleges about jobs otherwise PSU wouldn't have been able to hire Bill O'Brien yet.

out of respect to the coaches and teams and their HC's. Also, there would be a chance that that nfl team would not keep them on and they would have missed out on a chance of a lifetime to coach in SB.

It is so KF, that it seems to reason that one, maybe two, coaches are coming from this game. Especially since it was said that out will be revealed next week.

a point to remember is that Morgan is 63, 2 year from retirement age,
the sceniario i proposed on another site is that EJ wants to spend less time on the road, if this is true, the following might become real.
EJ steps down from coaching TE to become a administration asst and OC and doesn't go on the road to recruit and does not count against coaching staff #'s, this allows Brian Ferentz to come in as a TE coach and get his area of recruiting established.
this allows Morgan to coach till he is 65, at which time BF can step into the OL Coaching job and lets KF either promote another grad asst to TE coach or hire somebody. this allows for a smooth transition when Morgan retires, LaVarr Woods become the new DL coach, and the DC job goes to somebody outside. 3 new hires and other than a little hand wringing by a few online posters, it ends up quite smooth

Am I reading that right? Eric J as OC?? No way.

I would agree with this except for the fact that Penn State's new head coach will be calling the plays in the Super Bowl for the Pats.

NFL teams won't cut their assistant coach during the playoffs if they are going to leave after the season for a college job.

What does Morgan being 63 have to do with coaching two more years? It isn't like he needs SS to retire or Medicare for that matter. If he wants to step down or keep coaching I think it is totally up to him for how long he does or doesn't do it.

Totally agree. Reese Morgan makes enough money that he doesn't have to wait for Medicare. He's already eligible for Social Security, which he probably doesn't need. I would bet that any potential retirement package he might recive could include keeping his current health insurance, at least until Medicare kicks in, but I would bet even past then. Kirk is that kind of guy that he would pressure Barta to do so. I bet Barta would do it anyway.

So I think Morgan could retire any time he felt like it. Now that the current recruiting class has put ink to paper, this would be the most ideal time to retire.

Because of the timing, I think that it is HIGHLY likely that Brian Ferentz is being hired, most likely as OL coach.

I'm still stumped as to the new DC. They could've announced Phil Parker a long time ago. My gut tells me he is still the leader in the clubhouse, but not a lock. Maybe the message has finally gotten through to KF and he has relented to bring some new blood and fresh ideas into the coaching staff.

My guess is KF wanted to announce the changes on his staff at the same time, whether that means Parker gets the job or not I'm not sure.

Coach Morgan probably is not eligible for Social Security. However, the teachers' & public employees' retirement funds are much better than Social Security.

I think PSU's situation was unique, in that they NEEDED to name a HC in order to move forward at all and especially with recruiting. Iowa didn't have that need and showed that they could close their class without naming the coaching changes. So, it could stand that KF didn't need or want to make life any harder than need-be for the coach or coaches from the NFL.

This is my thought too. I think th DC job is Parkers and KF is waiting for one announcement on all moves.

Just curious ColumbusHawk in regards to IPERS. If KF retires from Iowa in 5 years and is fully vested in IPERS. His current salary is 4.3Mil. Does he get the same as other state employees upon retirement? 65-70% of salary. I know he needs the money. That would really be cutting a real fat hog.

Much of his salary...

is paid for by outside sources (TV, endorsement deals, etc.). Those dollars would not count toward figuring his retirement.

There is a wage ceiling. It caps out around $250k.
