Davis goes under the microscope

The one comment that cracked me up was throwing the ball to a receiver that was one yard short of the first down sticks on a 3rd and 2. You just can't make this stuff up.

There is a lack of innovations on the offensive side of the ball. One of the things Miller and Deace said that caught my ear, was to add plays with both Wadley and Daniels in the back field. There are things that can be done with what Iowa has, instead of what they don't have. Expecting this group of receivers to get a read pass route playbook isn't working when the receivers are cutting off corners on routes etc.

What really frustrates me is to watch Iowa try to slam square pegs into round holes. Instead of saying, these are the players we have and these are their skill sets, let's find some plays that will work with them. It's like they say well this is our offensive playbook. Too bad these plays don't fit you, but it's all we got.

Isn't that what great coaches are suppose to do?

GD should be in an unemployment line. KF needs to make a hard decision this off season, but don't think he has the mustard to go thru with it. Abysmal and dismal is our offense under GD. The data talks, and bull&#*t should walk. Watching the game Saturday was like watching a python slowly squeeze the life out of his prey, a bit grisly.

I would have made the change now during the bye week, shake things up, show you are willing to. We can give a tryout to BF or whomever then and give us an idea if he can be any better then make the appropriate hire in the offseason.

But, again, does this all come down to Ferentz? Is Greg calling the game that he wants called? Then again, Davis was fired for the same crap at Texas.

The most frustrating part for me is that I've seen Iowa deal with adversity on offense before. In 2003, Iowa lost Brown in the first quarter of the ISU game and wasn't completely healthy until bowl game. Hinkel wasn't really healthy the entire year and missed many games. Lewis didn't play until the last month of the season. Ochoa, Melloy, & Davis where are primary WRs and Russell was really Iowa's only RB. Yet they still found ways to score some points.
2004 is well documented regarding the RBs and Iowa adjusted to player strengths again.

Now as many said, its like "here's the plays we have boys" and that's it.

I know Parker was hurt but he is the fastest player (in pads with the football in his hands) that Iowa has had in years. And he's got pretty quick too. Proved he can hit big plays in 2014. I don't think he touched the ball last year. He dressed for the Minnesota, Purdue, and Wisconsin games this year but rarely sees the field. An average staff would design at least 3-5 plays per game to try to get this guy the ball in space.

Davis should be fired now but he won't be. If he isn't fired at the end of the season it will just add to the number of fans who will not renew season tickets.
He is graded by college football matrix as one of the worst offensive coordinators. I think they have him graded as a D coordinator.

I don't believe in reactionary moves, but there's been enough time passed to see that Davis isn't getting the job done. I do not believe that the wide receivers are that bad. It's up to the coach to figure out how to put them in routes that get them open. That's not happening. Putting them in the same routes that are not open on the idea that they'll be open the next time is the football version of the defintion of "crazy". He needs to "retire" at the end of this year.

I'm still mad kirk didn't challenge that spot.
Seriously I watched that play and the play where Wisconsin was rewarded a first down when he was clearly short and wondered if some sort of fix was in. Usually I don't complain about reviews and try to lay off the officials but that game was weird to me. Not saying it would've changed the outcome, but it really made me scratch my head.

Greg Davis was unemployed. After being fired from Texas nobody wanted him and he was out of football for a year before Kirk offered him a job. Instead of looking for an up and coming coordinator or doing anything remotely creative, we took the easy, lazy approach and offered Davis who couldn't even move the ball with Texas talent and garbage B12 defenses.
