David Smith

In wathing the video on the home page, what the heck is that offensive formation that they run? I have never seen it before with the RB's angled behind the TE or tackles. Does that particular formation have a name?

We ran that my freshman/sophomore years in HS. It's called the Double Wing, basically. You have to have some speed and an athletic OL for it to be effective. We had neither.

Kid is like Forest Gump running 40 yards past every endzone.

Notes about the Double Wing offense:
-Its really effective in high school when you have players that are 'tweeners as RB/WRs because you can easily send them out for passing routes. Confusion surrounding fake hand-offs is also more effective in high school.
-As stated earlier, GT and Navy run the double wing, but a lot more schools ran it in previous decades.
-The more common single wing (only one wingback with a second TE or SE) is the basis for the modern Wildcat offense.

Sigourney Keota won a couple of state titles with this offense. MY Defensive coach in high school always called this offense the hardest to gameplan for as there are so many things that can happen out of this set.

Someone who pays for Hawkeye Insider help me out. What is the article saying about David Smith? What is David Smith saying?...

Copy and paste. haha. plzz

He is taking an unofficial to Iowa City this weekend.

I thought the chances of him committing after his visit this weekend would be pretty good. Anyone unofficially hear how his unofficial visit went this weekend? Based on his past comments and relationship with Flemming I would expect committment soon!

It is a little weird HOW far he runs out of the back of the endzone. And no, you don't need THAT much room to slow down. That being said, it does look like the guy has a lot of speed and talent. Hopefully we can land his services

was talking with Rob Howe about Smith yesterday, and it sounds like Smith is going to visit Iowa City this coming weekend with Reese Fleming.

In recruitment of in-state RB Smith, Illinois on outside looking in | IlliniHQ.com

I'm not sure that Iowa is such an obvious lock for Smith.

He's on record stating that while he likes Illinois, his concern about them is his ability to see the field early. The fact that the Illini got some talented RBs in the prior recruiting class may have done something to influence his opinion.

I'm not sure that Iowa offers too much more early opportunity than the Illini. Of course, with Coker owning the top RB spot, he'd have a shot to earn a starting spot after that. Furthermore, with his speed, he offers more than a little bit of a change-of-pace from our other RBs.

Maybe he just knows that since Ford will be gone after this season ... the young guys ahead of him will more likely nail down the starting spot before he gets there. That certainly will not be the case at Iowa. Furthermore, he may have plenty of concern about how much longer Zook and Co will be there.

It's also worth noting that he's on record saying that Oregon State and Boston College will get a visit from him "for sure." That suggests to me that he's no Iowa "lock."

With the RB recruits left on the board that have shown interest I like this kid the best. I would have loved to grab Hill and Smith but we probably have another bruiser in McCall so a speed back might be better. Coleman and Garmon are both good prospects but they look more suited to a WR position to me. Lile IMO looks too good defending to put him on the Offensive side of scrimmage.
