Dakin Gone

With Rocco following Campbell to Happy Valley, Iowa State seems to be a dumpster fire. Obviously unlike Indiana and some other schools, the money is just not there to do a quick rebuild. I'm not mad about this at all.

I can honestly say, I'm a bit surprised how things imploded in Ames. Coaches leave and you get some guys in the portal, but this is a mass exodus. Assuming some of it was Campbell was very well liked and Pollard is the scapegoat with more information leaking out how dysfunctional his relationship was with the coaches in Ames.

The difference is now when this happens there's tons of NIL money available for good players, and then once the good players are gone there isn't really much to stick around for with the lower level guys. It's a snowball effect. Once a few guys see their buddies and roommates leave, they leave, and then pretty soon everyone is jumping ship. ISU isn't a Penn State or something desirable where guys want to stick it out because the program has pull to get a good coach. ISU's thing was 100% Campbell making them a decent program and once he's gone there's nothing left but the city of Ames to live in. They have no blue blood status, they really have zero competitive status outside the years he was there. I think the same thing would happen at nebraska if Rhule left. That program is in shambles the way it is and would only be in bigger shambles if a head coach bailed.

I've had a suspicion that the real reason Woods left for MSU is that Fitz is giving him his chance to leapfrog Wallace and Lester t replace KF when that time comes. Fitz did name him associate head coach.

Rhule leaving them high and dry or being shown the door would be so awesome. They just lost their back to LaTeef too. After their bowl game, I would think that their recruiting is gonna be a chore.

Debby really messed up big time extending Rhule. I see no way they cut him lose as his buyout is like $70M. He would either need to leave or have a really bad screw up where he would get fired for cause. It will be interesting to see wat he can field next year and if they can last the year. The schedule is drastically more difficult than this year.

When you have no identity, jump coordinators and coaches every year and not allow them to develop and chase recruiting stars that don't fit together Nebraska is what you get.

Rhule isn't at the age where he'll be retiring and even if he did he has to be actively seeking equal employment to get paid. His buyout will be reduced by whatever the school he coaches at next pays him. He won't get $50 million like Franklin, but he'll get a salary that will reduce the buyout substantially.

I saw that Nebraska got a QB commit from the portal. He was the backup QB at Notre Dame last year. Highly recruited kid out of HS. I'm sure Husker Nation is ready to start printing the national championship gear right now.

IF it gets bad enough, the heat from the fan base and media will run him out and he will bail. After the Iowa game, some of his pressers were.....umm desperate? Seemed to be grasping at straws to convince everyone or maybe himself that the ship is not sinking. He seemed at times at a loss for words.

I actually kinda liked Rhule compared to Pellini and Frost. Callahan didn't seem to have a pulse, but after the no handshake incident, I wish nothing but complete destruction of Lil Debby. I mean, even without that incident, I still wished for Nebby to crash and burn. But I take even more pleasure seeing the mushroom cloud in Lincoln.

That's the thing, he's a likeable guy and says all the right things, but terrible at translating it to the field. Fake news...

Who do you think will hire him as their next coach assuming his track record at Nebraska continues? Like you have stated the guy is fake news, and at some point he can't run from his record or make more excuses.
If he continues down the same road no big name school is going to hire him and be able to pay him a big amount to reduce that buyout. His best yea at Baylor they had an incredibly weak schedule and all his losses were against the only ranked teams they played. Since then his track record has been bad. Nebraska hasn't beaten a ranked team in like 10 years, maybe next year will be the year after they win the off-season championship for a record breaking time.

Last year was his year to show out. Soft schedule. 2026 will be much more challenging. He may not get a big time coaching gig and IF they find a way to mutually part ways, and negotiate some sort of payout, he probably will slide back to a coordinator position. As bad as it has been for him, there will be some lower tier school or a school in a worse situation that will hire him.

Lance Leipold is at Kansas with a contract that has $27 million remaining on it until 2029. He's got a 16-29 conference record since 2021.

Don't underestimate what coaches will get paid.
