Dakich Says He Brokered Deal for Alford to New Mexico

What the what? Did he get an agents cut then? I wonder how ole Steve feels about Dakich airing that and if it would have any effect on him going back?
I think Steve goes home. The national media is so short sighted with things. Just last yr UCLA had Steve cut a year off his deal after the bad year they had. He was on the hot seat like the last 2 yrs there. So he got lucky with the recruiting class he got (thanks UCLA boosters) and has them primed for a good run here. But he can't sustain that and his job security is on thin ice. How much good will would this year bring him? Not a ton at that school. His last kid is graduating and it's just the perfect time for him to maximize his value to Indiana and go home. If Tom Crean got 9 yrs how long would they give Steve? He'd have to just about crater that program before they'd fire him and they'd give him 2 or 3 yrs to get off the ground as it is. That's not to mention they'll pay him more. UCLA was penny pinching on him and even if they match what Indiana would pay your money goes way further in Bloomington... I suspect his wife is house shopping online as we speak in Bloomington...

Alford left before he got fired. If memory serves me correctly, Barta wouldn't give him an extension and the writing was on the wall. Shit, I could have probably brokered his deal to New Mexico. Where's my money?:)

I saw him on ESPN 2 this morning, Dakitch threw every IU coach under the bus from Knight until now. It was kind of funny actually, he didn't help IU's basketball program any with his remarks. Yesterday when I got home from work I turned on Tru TV and their NCAA coverage, they were airing this long Alford interview. I was amazed at how he just kept talking about himself, very self centered person.

I hope he gets the Indiana job. It isn't going to make FM's job harder. It will be entertaining for 5 or 6 years before he gets run out of there. Alford is a big name, but I think he is best suited as a mid-major coach. If Indiana wants to bring the prodigal son home so be it. It's their mistake.

The feud he has with Sean Miller is so classic Alford. Good luck Indiana.

Interesting comments from Dakich about Bobby Knight in this article, including a reference to Knight's indifference toward recruiting during his last years on the job at Indiana, particularly with Raef Lafrentz and Jacque Vaughn.

If that's true - and the there's no reason to think Dakich is lying about it - that's a good explanation for the slow decline of Indiana basketball toward the end of Knight's tenure. Not even bothering to be on campus when one of the top players in the country is making an on-campus visit, just so you can go play golf? That's a pretty damning revelation from Knight's former top assistant, at least in terms of Knight's performance as a coach.

What's also interesting is that Dakich is pushing hard for Alford while at the same time dropping comments about Knight, saying Knight became a me-first guy and that's why he's lost Dakich's respect. Has he met Alford? Has he paid any attention to the things Alford says? Alford doesn't really strike me as a "we" guy. More like "we" only when his team wins, and "they" when his team loses.

The fan support between New Mexico & Iowa has been rather even and/or close over the last 4 decades. Also, the Pit reduced their capacity to 15,411, I'm guessing due to such huge fan support...

Paragraphs are an amazing new invention that's easy on the eyes.
