Dakich is growing on me

I like him as well. Some nights he has a bit of a 'tude' and just cracks me up. His homer-ism of Indiana gets a bit much.

He is brutally honest, which works for me.
He is not a homer, and will call out any team.
I heard him call out New Mexico after last week loss.

Hope he does the games next week in NYC.

Honestly, sometimes you need to have a filter and he has no filter. He says some of the dumbest off the cuff crap that it's not even enjoyable to listen to. Calling out the Virginia player about not being a leader...he's seen one game most likely...and this kid was their leading scorer. I get the freshman Andersen has had a great tournament, but he was also a tool last night...staring down our bench...the foul and grandstanding when he hammered the hell out of McCabe. That dude was a complete tool...he shot it great and was athletic, but he behaved like a total moron. Calling out the guy who performed all year...and praising the guy that had struggled more than Ogelsby at the three...well.

When's the last time you've heard a color man on a national broadcast just flat out say the that the game officials have been horrible? Most of them are too PC to even point out a bad call when they can see a blatantly bad one on replay. I like Dakich a lot and despite his siding with his buddy Steve, I think he has a lot of respect for Coach McCaffery and Iowa.

I didn't like the part where he said Basabe was a "disappointment", but other than that he's cool. IMO, these announcers don't have to be so hard on these players. Yes Basabe had a bad sophomore year, but don't blatantly call the kid a disappointment on national TV. Poor taste.

Besides, Basabe has had a pretty good Junior season.

I watched the replay on ESPN3 and was able to listen to him without everyone screaming and yelling at the refs last night where I was watching the game, and actually he was somewhat complimentary toward the Hawks. He does love the Big Ten. I didn't like his comment about Basabe. That was tasteless. He tends to wander off on unrelated tangents sometimes, and that is alright to a degree. I thought he was going to deck the Virginia loudmouth spewing spittle on his back, screaming at the refs. Would have loved to have seen that.....

Last night, he was OK......

The Indiana stuff is definitely what bugs me the most. Otherwise, I think he's alright. I mean, Jordan Hulls isn't the guy I'd jump to for 3-point shooting. He doesn't hit a whole lot unless it's wide-open, which he gets a lot of looks like that because everybody's worried about Zeller, Oladipo, and Watford before they worry about him. But I think there's a reason he was 0-17 from the floor (0-8 from behind the arc) in two games against Iowa, a team that played excellent perimeter defense this year. He padded his stats against bad defenses all year, and was nothing special in the games against teams who actually concern themselves with playing good D.

I'd take Tyrus McGee over Hulls as a shooter (and as an overall player) in a heartbeat. That guy hits shots with the defense coming hard at him.

I believe a penicillin shot will take care of dakich growth. If you already have a burning sensation then it is too late.

I always find myself wondering who some of these fans do like as analysts?
Fans tend to be so sensitive about analysts, the only guys they could like say absolutely nothing.

If I thought that Dakich had no background observing the Hawks I would probably take more offense at the Melsahn comment, and he was wrong, but clearly Mel did dip last year,so he was half right.

As for Barnes,he was 1st team all conference for UVA,but even Cav fans are saying he has tailed off badly down the stretch. Makes sense for Dakich to point it out when he had yet another below average game. Maybe he is a bit harsh on players, but like when coaches break down player performances in the postgame, not every player is MJ out there, and somebody has to play poorly in losses.

he isn't that bad - like anyone who will say what they think -some people hate him and some people will like him for it

Dakich is fine. He has an opinion, a lot of times I agree with what he is saying so he's great; sometimes I disagree with him so he's a dope. He's often entertaining. To me, his voice can be annoying in long doses.

I don't think he's doing Fran any favors by stating consistently that Iowa could be a B1G favorite next season (depending on who leaves other schools early). Most fans tune the qualifier out.

If you think he hates Iowa that's a you problem, he's said several times he thinks we could be the B10 favorites next year.

Does he believe that or is it "coach speak" because Iowa is on at the time.

If anyone doesn't think Iowa is going to be really good next year is well...not smart.

Saying Iowa is a favorite next year is not a huge leap my friend. If you have listened and in particular to B1G games he never gives Iowa any credit...at all.
