A lot of Hawkeyes like posting this: "I've come to grips with the fact Iowa will never play for all the marbles in football or basketball."

That really is loser talk. Tell me why Clemson was destined to be in the title game back to back years????

Answer: Dabo.

Iowa can make it to the "game". The right coach will get us there. It's just a matter of finding him.

Miles maybe, Bielima, Fleck maybe. Chris Peterson? Mike Macintyre? Perhaps a Bill 'Obrian type. Let's find that guy!

We got prolly 4-5 years to find him. Let's do it!

Would love to see a FB or Bball National Title in my lifetime.
 
Saviors of the BT football programs, Meyer and Harbaugh, have been totally embarrassed in post season play. I seem to recall that Urban was going to save the BT from mediocrity with his superior recruiting theories. Khaki Pants was going to bring Blu back to national power. Both were exposed, urban two years in a row. When PSU gets blown out in the Rose Bowl, the three most storied programs will have failed to show up. And then there is the other storied program, Nebraska...how did their bowl game work out for them? In Nashville? MSU falls apart in 2016 and does not even get to a bowl. Wisconsin plays a MAC school and at least will be favored. Hopefully, the Hawks will show some moxey. The door is open for Iowa, and some other BT programs to take a step up. Go for it.
 
I can see next year being AL vs. CLEM for a 3rd straight time. They both have the pieces.

OSU will need to find a QB that can throw to compete at the elite level, they have the rest. Same goes for Mich.
 
For taking the next step after KF there's no way a coach who's looking at a blueblood school comes to Iowa. My first thoughts would be someone like Chris Kleiman who's won at a lower level. There has to be someone young and hungry.

I don't know if it will happen but if the Hawkeyes get the chance to run up the score on Florida they need to do it. Laying a good old country butt whoopin on a SEC team with some stature will go a long ways in propelling this team into next year. Especially recruiting. Let's hope it does and let's hope KF seizes the moment and has the sand to do it. A la his old boss HF.
 
Ohio St's offensive line was not top tier. Just two years ago they blasted Bama with Elliott and the offensive line, this year's OSU is young. But I agree that there are usually more teams south of the Mason-Dixon line that are powerhouses, including USC when they have the right coach.

And in many ways, the Wash - Bama game was much closer than it looked based on a few big plays, turnovers, etc.
 
Can Iowa win it, sure, when all the recruiting, injuries, and stars align. Yes, you need the right coach and I think Sweeny, Saban, Meyer and there like really really want to and expect to win every game, damn the idea of 'that's football'. KF is a really good coach but not the perfectionist as these other coaches.
 
Not sure how Harbaugh and Mich got totally embarrassed losing by one point to a # 11 FSU team. I think after Mich got the late lead then gave up a big kick return is not how Harbaugh foresaw the ending but that is the way it goes.
 
I know some of you won't want to hear this. But Clemson made a big mistake when they fired Tommy Bowden. You don't just fire a guy named Bowden in the sport of college football. And he had just signed the number one recruiting class in the country. Their program is proof that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

You certainly entitled to feel how you like as a fan. They're your expectations and they can be whatever you want them to be.

I will ask this question to put into context what expectations are realistic.

How many teams in the country and in the Big Ten have averaged 10 wins a season for the last decade?

In 1961 most scientists/engineers thought it was impossible to get to the moon before 1970. Hell, today this fakacta country can't build a manufacturing plant in less than 8 years. But in 61 Kennedy saw what others couldn't. He saw the impossible. And because he saw it, millions of others found a way to see it. And the impossible happened.
 
When the team's "leadership" council puts together a list of 3 goals at the beginning of the year and not one of them includes a conference championship, a Top 10 finish, or a national championship...then the program will never win one.
