D coordinator happenings?

The OP isn't cutting and running though. He is sticking by his story. Deal done and only a matter of when it's announced. I still call BS though but if this guy is right he has to be one of the most connected posters in history. Hell, nobody even knows 100% what happened with Wegher and I'm sure info out of Fort Kinnick is even harder to come by.

I was thinking that if Norm was done/stepped down...it would open a spot.

Norm does not officially have a position to coach.

Phil Parker (DB) or Darrell Wilson (LB) call the D and Mike Stoops is sort of a D adviser who can help with the position that the person calling the D coaches?

Tough to find a qualified guy to step in at this point. If Norm does need a break, this could make sense...just not at a DC level.

LOL the dude was a HC. He's not going to take a postion coach job anywhere. It's just not how it works. There is no reason this couldn't be true, not saying it is, just saying it makes sense and is within the realm of possibility.

A position coach for the last half of the season, at his alma mater and a place he has already coached, seems a lot more realistic than Kirk turning his D over to a stranger (which would really rattle assistants like Wilson and Parker).

Could he be the DC next year, sure but I see no way he slides into that spot for the rest of this season.

agreed with one exception. If Norm's health is deteriorating again I could see Ferentz telling Norm that he really needs to worry about his health and let him go to protect Norm from himself basically.

Since we haven't heard anything on that front though, I'm greatly skeptical about this.

Ferentz, in one of his press conferences at or before the 2011 season, said (I'm paraphrasing) Norm should consider his health and coach part-time.

Yes you can, in his last season at MN Tim Brewster brought in Mark Mangino as a consultant and yes I personally saw the human pork chop on the sidelines of the Gopher/USC game.

How could you not? I think I saw him looking out my back window in Des Moines

This actually makes a lot of sense. Norm is a proud man. He knows his squad is getting kicked around this year. If he doesn't feel he can continue to give the effort required, perhaps this is the scenario that unfolds.

If it does, not promoting from within would be a huge change for KF and possibly suggest there was a failure to identify and groom a replacement from the staff.

No way.... 1 year with a struggling defense and we have to bring in a consultant??? Who was fired at his last job because he couldn't get the job done??

I was just saying that logistically to get around the number of coaches you can have. Not that I think we need it, or would do it.

Also IF it happens it's not because the defense is struggling I would think it would be because of Norm's health.

I didn't mean to just discount your idea about the consultant... I meant the whole idea in general.
