Opponent's points from 3. That's the dagger. The way the game is played now, that number can't be bad.

Looking at the O, his best and final team was only 5 deep with a guard who didn't score much but had almost 8 assists a game. Very much a "Big mans: team with leading scorers at 6-5, 6-7 and 6-9 on the inside. 3 seniors and 2 juniors.

Here are his numbers/rankings during his time as HC at UNC Greensboro:

1987/88= 40.4%

Opponent's FG Percentage:

1986/87= 48.6%
1987/88= 46.9%

"I just stick to my strengths," Jabari Parker said on 670 The Score in Chicago Wednesday. "Look at everybody in the league. They don't pay players to play defense. There's only two people historically that play defense. I'm not going to say I won't, but to say that's a weakness is like saying that's everybody's weakness. Because I've scored 30 and 20 on a lot of guys that say they play defense."

I'm guessing Sienna's offensive stats were pretty decent. Just a wild guess.
Of course, that's why he was brought to Iowa after the slow and boring Lick ball.

Siena:

Offensive Efficiency:

2005/06= 102nd

Said it then and stand by my statement: If we're going to lose, I would rather watch us lose 85-75 than 55-45.

I think we all know what we get out of Fran by now. Defense isn't really on that list.

The NCAA has supposed to have adapted more of the NBA way of officiating by allowing freedom of movement. However college teams are still allowed to get away with absolutely smothering and mugging defense. Fran does not know how to teach that style of defense. I doubt he has ever played it himself. I don't believe on ball pressure is even one of his beliefs. That's why we don't see it.

I tell ya though I think if the NCAA ever did enforce the freedom of motion rule to letter of the law, that McCaffery could be one hell of coach in this game. Also some of the defensive guru coaches would be on their way out the door. Looking at you Izzo and Boeheim.

Yes, makes sense but I was also trying to draw similarities to how Fran's O/D splits are here.

Good question, and nice job by @tksirius in doing the leg work.

Yes, excellent job tksirius!!! But after hearing the answers, I'm sorry I asked. Leads me to a cpl of questions: does the brunt of instilling any kind of defense fall on our assistant coaches, or, is there any hope?

I've said for the last few years that we probably need Fran to hire an assistant who is a defensive specialist. Like what Beilein did a few seasons ago.

It's pretty much a no brainer at this point. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening.

This is sooo spot on. Fran may need to go in a year or two and I won't object, but I hope he goes out on the way he wants to coach basketball. How this roster is constructed and given Fran's philosophy on how he wants to play, they will never be good defensively. I just roll my eyes when people talk about defense with this team. A drastic improvement on defense would put them on par with the team 2 years ago, which wasn't very good. Plain and simple for at least the next year or two they will have to "outscore" people.

Me either, because I believe Fran has become nose blind to how bad the defense stinks compared to other college teams. I'm also guessing he is surrounded by yes men that aren't giving it to him straight. No one wants to tell the boss that half of the company sucks.

I know there's talk about Fran emphasizing defense this year but a leopard can't change its spots. Sienna, Iowa, elsewhere, it's about pretty good offense stats and awful defensive ones.
