It helped Marble's skills with the ball though. Which is important at a slashing position. Hopefully he becomes a guy who can take his defender off the dribble in the years to come.
This.
Roy will need to develop that shot first. If he can become consistent at the 15foot + range, then look out.
The same can be said for Eric May. Those two need to push each other all summer in the gym. If they BOTHcan develop the medium to long range jumper... Big IF. But if it happens, let's just say defenses will have a serious time stopping us. Especially if we can develop/recruit some 3 point threats.
He prob won't ever be 100% again, in my medically uneducated opinion.
why this? Why can't a person heal to 100% after a sports hernia and torn oblique repair? soft tissue surgery, not ligament or bone.
in my opinion, it was the traumatic fracture of 2 vertebrae that likely led to these second and third injuries
If he played with Basabe would he finish differently? He is a streak shooter that can get hot and take over a game. He can also go ice hold and be a detriment. He can drive and dish. Not real confident in him finishing at the rim without some type of circus shot to keep from getting swatted. What we missed most about him this year is his toughness, attitude and ball handling.
Whoa! Where did spinal damage come in?in my opinion, it was the traumatic fracture of 2 vertebrae that likely led to these second and third injuries
I think his history of back problems goes back to HS. I just recall at the end of last year he had some issues with his back that had reoccured from his senior year. Not staking my life on it be its my recall.Whoa! Where did spinal damage come in?

Well its certainly not hard or uncommon to overcompensate for one injury and cause another but I hadnt heard anything in regards to his back after HS and thought he was OK.Actually in late December of his senior year of high school, Cully went down hard and broke those vertabrae and was finished for the year. He was enjoying a big senior year to that point.
He played with a back brace for much of his frosh year at Iowa,so he was still experiencing some discomfort. To his credit,he gutted it out and never complained.
Then sometime last summer or fall he must have tore his ab muscle and had the hernia.
I have no idea if the injuries are related, tho.
I played BB till I was 45 and I can tell you that your lower back take a beating. Its a shame if he doesn't overcome the problem because he started to show some range last year. I just know that the pain does not go away, even after many years. Hope for the best for him. This is what I was thinking as well. Sounded like it could have been a fall on an attempted finish at the rim. Makes you really appreciate how lucky Dwyane Wade has been all these years. That guy takes more hits than anyone I've ever seen.
Also makes you wonder how good Cully might have been, especially given how good his younger brother appears to be. Cully can't be the same player he once was anymore.
Cully has a congential back problem. Even before he broke his back, he had to wear a back brace. Because of the problem he is in constant pain. The injury in high school is no longer a problem.
There was a very good article in the Gazette or Press-Citizen about a year ago concerning the pain Cully has to endure to play basketball. Even without playing basketball, Cully has to take medication for the back pain.
I posted the article on this site, however it has been removed. I have tried to find the article on the net, but with no luck.
