Cubs win!

Cubs have swept the D-backs and it appears that Aramis is back. So the Cubs are still 9 games under .500 and 10.5 GB Cinci. I don't care if the Cubs think they are still in it, they are NOT. I'm hoping that the resurgence of the bats provides some ammo for teams wanting to trade with the Cubs, and I hope the Cubs don't waste any money or prospects trying to better their team. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Very interesting. I caught a little of Chicago Trib Live on Comcast last night and they talked about the trade market for Cubs players. The discussion was around Lilly and Silva (and possibly Lee) because Fukudome, Soriano, Ramirez, and Big Z would be tough to trade with their contracts. The Cubs would probably need to pay a lot (if not most) of the contracts of those 4 players. If Aramis shows some life, it may be possible to trade him but I believe he has a player option on his contract for next year (?) at 16 million.

Let's see what happens.

I agree with what you're saying, but I think the cubs will be a little drastic with Big Z and try to trade him anyway and take a bit of his contract. I don't mind keeping Rammy around for another year until we can develop/buy a 3B and Fuk has 1 year on his contract so don't mind him for 1 more year if we HAVE to, and Soriano is a good clubhouse guy, but I htink 1 OF has to go so Colvin can play everyday. Might be in the off-season though. As for Silva and Lilly, get what you can for them. However if we lose Silva, Lilly and Z. That's a good chunk of our rotation. Some young guys will get some experience I guess.

And for the love of pete take anything you can get for DLee

The Cubs got a 3 game sweep over one of the WORST teams in the NL. Now, go into LA and sweep the Dodgers, and maybe I will care to watch them after the All Star Game. If not, I try to catch a nightly score.......and will officially turn my attention to football!

No argument from me. I think the Cubs (aka hendry) will see this as an excuse to not trade people. Cubs need to be SELLERS

Hendry has a bunch of HUGE contracts (which he inked) to deal with and will be nearly impossible to trade, unless, like said above, the Cubs agree to pay a majority of the salary! The Cubs need to clean house, but I am not sure that they will be able to move much due to money being owned to players that have played up to the lofty contracts.

Cubs are looking to unload Lilly, Fuku, and Lee. I read this morning that teams are lining up to get Lilly.

All valid points. I would agree to be drastic with Big Z especially.

Agreed and I think Lilly would be the easiest to trade of all the players. With D Lee in his last year it is possible, and Silva has been good this year so that's possible too. One OF has to go no matter what. My guess is Fuk is the one left out, and it's possible.

Everyone needs a starting lefty so Lilly is probably gone

The Mets have been looking at Lilly. However, we may have to wait and see where Cliff Lee goes first.

How ironic if the Cubs end up getting a prospect or 2 for Silva. After all they were forced to take him in order to unload Milton Bradley. I hate saying this but it is time to blow up this team, get young, and build (again) for the future. They lost their shot at a WS in 2008.

Had to beat somebody. Can't exactly sweep themselves. Not until they clean house at the trade deadline, anywho.

Lee won't exactly be terribly easy to trade. Forgetting for a moment the NTC in his contract, he's a 10/5 guy so he has to approve any deal. Since he's in the final year of his contract, salary isn't much of a concern. The real problem is, he'll be 35 by season's end and has been pretty inconsistent. His defense at 1B is still really solid, but that's one of the last places on the diamond where a premium defender is key.

Tell that to the rest of his infielders whose *** he saves on a daily basis by stretching out for an off target throw or scooping one out of the dirt. A lot of people take that for granted.

Nobody takes it for granted, and it's silly to think it happens that frequently. Premium defense at 1B is a nice bonus, but it's better to have it pretty much everywhere else on the diamond first.

I agree with you and I think the age is one reason he would take a trade to a true contender. He doesn't have much time left in the Majors and the Cubs aren't going to give him a new contract (I pray anyway) at the end of the year, so he might as well go somewhere he can win this year. I don't think he'll end up going anywhere cause he hasn't performed this year, but you can hope. I think Lilly is sure to be gone, and I hope they can move Fuk's contract somehow. Also I think Silva might go somewhere to be someone 4 or 5 guy down the stretch.
