cubs/nationals 4/27

pin2win

@hagertony
we are now .500 and we gotta get some more enthusiam on this board bout the cubs! we are 2nd in the central only 2.5 games back which isn't bad! we all know cubs will be cubs and the offense is picking up having 4 straight wins. i wasn't gonna jump the gun on this because i didn't want to jinx the cubbies.

theriot was on fire on the road. silva had some great showings only giving up singles with no major damage and his era is at 1.73.

the cubs are just a few home games from being towards the top of the national league besides a couple of teams who are hot right now. the whole national league is pretty darn even when you think about it when it comes to record

as for tonights game gorzelanny had a no hitter into the 5th and had a great showing but his record doesn't show it being 0-2. with the cubs putting up some offense i think the cubs win tonight. zambrano has expressed he isn't happy with the situation but he is happy to do whatever it takes to fix the problem the cubs have and if him being in the bullpen so be it!

lets get a W tonight

nice post. It's both hard and easy not to start building some excitement with the play of Colvin, Byrd and the guys coming soon from the minors.

It's time to unload Theriot and Fuk/Soriano while they are hot. SELL HIGH!!!

No matter how hot he gets, nobody will touch Soriano and his giant contract

Why in the world would you want to trade Theriot? Open up more playing time for Baker and Fontenot? Theriot is not making much money and has been productive

I believe he was talking about bringing up Starlin Castro. I think that Theriot has one more year left and it's Castro time. I wouldn't mind seeing Theriot at 2nd and adios fontenot/baker. However, not sure that is going to happen. Castro will be the starting SS next year though. Theriot is a nice player, but Castro is a prototypical leadoff man and a better defensive SS, plus he can hit. He's just a little green but he'll be up sooner than later. Theriot is a solid player, but he's hit his ceiling.

Theriot's ceiling is well above Baker and Fontenot. No need to ditch a cheap, productive players when there are a couple other cheap, worthless players who could go before him

I agree with you. My post said Castro at SS, and Theriot at 2nd with Fontenot and Baker gone. I think All three have hit their ceilings and though Theriot's is below Castro's, it's above Font and Baker's. We agree here. However, I don't see it playing out this way due to finances of the players. However I beleive that most hit arbitration this year, so we may have to work on who stays and who goes

Also, Theriot was looking for a huge raise he didn't get this year, and may shop himself around and become a not so cheap option next year.

The Cubs should be able to start winning consistently as long as the offense continues to click on all cylinders. I have become a huge fan of Marlon Byrd already. I like the way he always hustles. I also like the way he sprints around the bases when he hits a home run. He is very knowledgeable of the fundamentals of the game and I like how he has taken Colvin under his wing.

Getting rid of Theriot would be a bad decision. He does his job by getting on base. I would love to see Soriano gone, but it won't happen. A team would be crazy to take that contract. Thanks Jim!

We face Livan Hernandez tonight who has only allowed 2 runs in 3 starts this year. Tonight will be another grinding game. Hopefully we pull it out.

Livan Hernandez and Carlos Silva have both been productive - what year is it?

Crazy

agreed

I would really like the cubs to get younger. I want to see Cashner, Vitters, Castro, and in a few years Lee (think him at SS and Castro at 2nd will be deadly). I would also like to see Ryno coaching the big squad.

you will get your wish before long

Lou is about dead

ryno is gonna have to prove himself first he is 8-10 right now 5 games back

Records don't matter too much when it comes to minor league managers. It's mostly about how you relate to players and the cubs def have Ryno on the fast track to managing the big league club.

not saying thats what their plan is at all but i would like to see him be competitive at the iowa cubs

I'm a Theriot fan, but I agree on Soriano and Fukudome. Let's get Colvin in the lineup everyday.

That's going to be hard to do with five outfielders, but he's clearly earned it. Unfortunately, he's being blocked by three guys who all make a ton more than he does.

I'm guessing that Nady will get traded at some point (probably for another right handed bat off the bench), and that will make finding time for Colvin easier.

He's clearly the best prospect to come out of the Cubs system in a long time.

Agreed. The Cubs haven't done him any favors with the AAA squad. I'm pretty sure the AA team would beat them in a series.

The Cubs have some prospects playing very well right now, unfortunately most are not at positions that we have potentially opening up next year like 1st or 3rd.

Nice to see the Cubbies playing well lately.

If the Cubs can continue to get production from the bottom of their lineup (Soto, Colvin, Fontenot) and Big Z can stabilize the bullpen, the Cubs can continue to make up ground on the Cards and perhaps even overtake them.

If A-Ram can start hitting again and the Cubs can just figure out how to score 4+ runs a game consistently, they have a good shot at 90+ wins and a playoff spot.

Keeping everybody healthy will be a major key, but I have really enjoyed watching the recent winning streak.

I would love to see Colvin continue to get playing time over Soriano.

Go Cubs Go!!
