It’s plain to see that the Cubs will most likely finish this season as 1 of the 2 worst teams in baseball along with the Padres.
The future does hold some promise though for us long suffering Cub’s fans.
A potential lineup in 2014 could likely include the following names:
Name: Position: Age at start of 2014:
1. M. Szczur LF 25
2. S. Castro SS 24
3. A. Rizzo 1B 24
4. J. Soler RF 22
5. J. Vitters 3B 24
6. B. Jackson CF 26
7. W. Castillo C 27
8. J. Lake 2B 24
That’s a lot of young talent in one lineup – with 7 of the 8 guys being homegrown players and Rizzo being brought over in a trade. That’s not even including the Cubs last 2 top draft picks in J. Baez and A. Amaro.
If the Cubs can somehow manage to get some good pitching prospects in trades for Dempster and Garza this year and get a stud pitcher at the top of the draft next year – they have a decent chance to be a formidable team as soon as 2014.
Summers are so much more exciting when the Cubs have a winning team and aren’t 20 games under .500 by June 1.
